White House legislative affairs director Marc Short told reporters on Tuesday that President Trump would not demand that border wall funding is tied to a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Speaking at a roundtable event hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, Short said the administration didn’t want to “bind” itself by making a demand that would likely be a nonstarter for many lawmakers.

Well, this greatly increases the chances for passage of DACA.

Can a Trump whisperer explain the 3D intergalactic chess move this is?

Sounds like a reduction of piggy back legislation. Isn't that a good thing?

No funding will be needed. Once DACA is approved, a condition of continued residence for the dreamers will be a term of service as a laborer on the wall. The materials for the wall will be harvested from the recent storm wreckage as well as bricks of blow and H seized at the border.

Everybody wins.

Less piggy back legislation and BS riders means congress can get something done.

If you like DACA yes.

How does this increase the odds of him getting things the Dems really disagree with? By hoping it's a "remember the favor I did for you" type of thing later on?

I'm no hypocrite. I am for the elimination of piggy back legislation regardless of the purpose. Let things pass on their own not because something else is with it that must be passed.

I have no opinion on DACA legislature because it doesn't exist at this point.

So, back to the point. Any reduction in piggy back legislation is a GOOD thing regardless of how you feel about any of the legislation involved.

Then why were you for the Schumer-Pelosi deal and against the clean Harvey relief bill?

I believe you just made something up on your own.

I don't know that i'd call tying DACA to the wall piggyback legislation. Tying DACA to debt ceiling would be.

I think DACA and the WAll are typical political horsetrading. Some would argue that's what helped things get done b/t Reagan and Tip O'neil. Everyone wins a little, everyone loses a little.

Trump is not demanding it but there are Congressmen pushing for that, and if that is the way it comes to his desk, Trump will happily sign.

If that is what you have to tell yourself to feel better about this weak thread, go for it. Feel free to make up definitions however you see fit.

In this case they are related as they about both about immigration control.

It's not some weird unrelated pork like a museum in Nebraska; or an unrelated issue like offshore drilling regulations.

For me, I think accepting DACA means some type of reform to reduce the "dreamers" issue in the future. Otherwise what is the point?
