Twitter doesn't want to go to war with Trump and his supporters. In fact, many liberals in the media, journalists especially, would undoubtedly turn on Twitter if it were to happen.

It's owners and investors have been trying to sell for years.
It recently had a big potential sale fall through.
Banning the President of the United States would bring about substantial criticism and unwanted attention at a time when they are looking to unload the company. This would make the pool of potential buyers even smaller.
Twitter continues to lose money and no buyout is imminent.
Company eventually folds or is sold at a super cheap price to a company like LinkdIn or Salesforce, who blends it into their existing interfaces where the company is no longer recognizable, which causes the user base to migrate to newer, better alternatives.
All of this, or similar alternatives, could very well happen WITHOUT taking on Trump in a battle. Banning Trump could/would accelerate the process.
