Travel to Syria, Lydia, Yemen etc. you can't come back

This is so simple. If you travel to these countries or other terrorist hotospots your passport is revoked you CAN NOT be granted rentry from your exit country.
Christ some of these guys are going off and fighting for ISIS then going back to Western Europe from whence they came. Correct me if I'm wrong but ISIS is an enemy of the West, could fighting for them not be considered treason subject to death or at the very least revocation of your passport and imprisonment

Well, liberals protested and blocked airports over a temporary pause in immigration from these lovely locales. They will object to any travel restriction whatsoever that involves a Muslim country. They'd literally rather the occasional slaughter than risk Islamophobia.
