well they are simply matching the same amount of investment they have made the previous 5 years

so...if you want to call this winning for Trump, you also have to say that it was a previous win for Obama, no?

For the sake of fully understanding this news, which I know is very important to the users of this site...

quote:

DETROIT (Reuters) - Toyota Motor will spend $10 billion in U.S. capital investments over the next five years, matching the Japanese automaker's investments over the prior five years, North America chief executive Jim Lentz said on Monday.

The automaker has come under fire from President-elect Donald Trump for announcing in 2015 plans to shift production of its Corolla to Mexico from Canada. Lentz said in an interview at the Detroit auto show the decision is not a response to Trump but part of the automaker's business strategy to invest in the United States, where it has 10 plants in eight states.

Lentz said the planning for the new Mexico plant began about two years - if not earlier - before it was announced in 2015. These are long-term decisions, he said. Lentz said he has not spoken with Trump.

The $10 billion includes Toyota's new North American headquarters in Texas that is under construction and big improvements to its plants.

Doesn't appear they're changing their plans for the facilities in Mexico at this time. But hey, if Trump celebrates this as a victory and backs off the "big border tax", that's a win-win.

No problem with Toyota building a Mexican plant if they're planning to build cars to sell in Mexico. Just don't export manufacturing for cars to be sold in the US to be built in Mexico and take advantage of cheap labor

So international companies need a facility in every country they sell in? Sounds efficient...

Besides labor costs, car companies are locating in Mexico because of low regulation and the fact the Mexico has a number of free trade agreements around the world.

The big companies have figured out how to appease Trump. Just give him some meaningless headlines that he can retweet to his followers.

If you folks continue to bring facts into it, this whole MAGA is never going to leave the ground.

Nevertheless, the Cirque Du Soleil type propaganda coupled with excuses/apologies over the next four years are going to make the previous eight years look like Romper Room.

There's simply too much winning. No thread could possibly hold it all.
