Three CNN employees have resigned in the wake of the news outlet's retracted Russia story. Thomas Frank, the reporter who wrote the story; Eric Lichtblau, who recently joined CNN from the New York Times; and CNN Investigates executive editor Lex Haris have left the news outlet. The Washington Post first reported the resignations, which a CNN source confirmed to BuzzFeed News. "In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication," CNN said in a statement. The deleted story, which cited a single unnamed source, claimed that the Senate Intelligence Committee was eyeing a "$10 billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump's transition team four days before Trump's inauguration." The story, written by investigative reporter Frank, was posted on Thursday and deleted late Friday. More than an hour after BuzzFeed News contacted CNN about the deletion, an editor's note appeared on CNN website saying that the story "did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted."

Pretty sure that they will be employed by the Daily Beast or Huffpo shortly.
They're all members of the Club, so they're protected.

I wonder how many people saw and read the original story verses the retraction.
Glad they were fired, though.

This is why, in theory, anonymous sources are perfectly legitimate but at this point, with the media all in on picking a side, anonymous sources are complete shite.
We have a media that is demonstrating absolute ZERO credulity. They get their "single anonymous source" that says what they want to hear, and suddenly, front page.
These are the same people who wouldn't publish stories under Obama that were coming from NAMED sources because they "couldn't verify them".

Which is why it is so important for the media to not be predisposed to accept bull shite of a certain flavor.
Otherwise, its very easy.

When exactly did anybody at Fox do something like this?

Well, here's something unknowable presented as absolute fact.

Hmm. Already trying to limit the damage award

"did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted."
Which means with CNNs track record, we didn't have a leg to stand on, in a court of law
