Public schools in upper class, higher income areas are significantly better than those in lower class, lower income areas.
And you think this is because the parents are working all the time? Latch key kids are extremely prevalent in upper middle class and middle class families. The same families that produce the best student.
There are more factors in play than availability of the parents and their interest in their kids education.
Not to mention the percentage that straight up doesn't give a shite about what their kids do in school or life.
This problem is never going away.
When there is accountability at home for grades and behavior, performance will surely be better.
I guess this is true. So while we are all waiting for this to be a universal parental trait, we should keep dumping money into a public school system that does not meet the needs of parents and their children?
Public school is a failure. Theoretically this is because the system was not designed to flex and grow according to the stress of diverse educational needs. It was designed to provide a median level of education to as many people as possible. The problem is that it has crushed the ability of a naturally tailored private system to thrive.
