Memos signed by DHS secretary describe sweeping new guidelines for deporting illegal immigrants
So lets assume for a second that "the wall" could be an effective deterrent in preventing illegal immigration. Of course, it won't, but that's Trump's argument so let's go with it.
Why spend billions of dollars hiring people to deport illegal aliens from Mexico when all they'll do is come right back? Those jobs (which is why they came here in the first place) will still be available. Trump is saying there is a huge hole in the bottom of the boat: let's buy a lot more buckets. All you're accomplishing is a faster inflow and outflow. This solves nothing.
This is a perfect example of Trump's philosophy. Don't actually DO anything - just look like you're doing something. All headline, no story. All hat, no cattle.

Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly has signed sweeping new guidelines that empower federal authorities to more aggressively detain and deport illegal immigrants inside the United States and at the border.
In a pair of memos, Kelly offered more detail on plans for the agency to hire thousands of additional enforcement agents, expand the pool of immigrants who are prioritized for removal, speed up deportation hearings and enlist local law enforcement to help make arrests.
The new directives would supersede nearly all of those issued under previous administrations, Kelly said, including measures from President Barack Obama aimed at focusing deportations exclusively on hardened criminals and those with terrorist ties.
“The surge of immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States,” Kelly stated in the guidelines.

However, many specifics of achieving the goals of Trump’s executive orders remain unclear. For example, Kelly’s memos direct federal officials to seek all available funding for the border wall, but most of the funds, estimated at more than $20 billion, must be appropriated by Congress.
So lets assume for a second that "the wall" could be an effective deterrent in preventing illegal immigration. Of course, it won't, but that's Trump's argument so let's go with it.

I hate the wall, I think it be insanely expensive and really not accomplish a lot. I'm surprised all the leftists are against it, shovel ready jobs and all of that.

We are going to save billions on social services.

This is funny - downright pathetically funny - coming from a DEM - the party of APPEARING to do something about 'problems' that they invented. The 'problems' they invent are never solved - just the source of more heat and 'action' which is nothing more than attack on the traditional culture that made America great to begin with.

I'd love you to expand on this line of thought. Surely, no human is dumb enough to believe that walls don't effect movement, like IN EVERY PLACE ON EARTH.

Why not spend that money in infrastructure projects that actually do something? Bridges, roads, water,sewer....they're expensive but necessary. They create long term assets that last for decades.

Good job Trump.

Why would a wall be less effective than the ones other countries build? It's like saying why build a fence around a house since someone could still jump over it. But I see a lot of fences. I would bet that not many liberals espousing open borders leave their doors unlocked.

I don't get the uproar over this. There are laws to keep illegal immigrants out of the country. The president appoints people to remove said illegal immigrants.
Where is the outrage supposed to be?
Why do migrants think they can just move to any country they want to without regard to process or existing laws?

I noticed the word "illegal". Could you elaborate on that?

Oh...wait...it wasn't Trump.
Must be Bush's fault then.
Amirite?

Start arresting a few large employers of illegals that knowingly break the law and block any entitlements to illegals, then they will self deport as jobs and benefits dry up.

a.) this wall would be over 2000 miles wide. We already have a wall in many areas: they still tunnel under, climb over or burst through. Or even better: they simply come over on a tourist visa and don't leave.
b.) more to the point: as long as there is an economic incentive for them to come, they will come. They come here for the jobs.

See the Cartel thread on the OT for more evidence as to why we don't need a wall.
Some of the most violent heinous acts being committed within walking distance of the US? No problemo.
oh, and
Then what the hell do you suggest? Citizenship for erryone?

Did you ever ask this when Obama sat on his arse and actually squandered money and time?

Told you clowns to be careful of what you wished for when you did all the hellraising the first time. Enjoy your reward.

If you want to stop illegal immigration, this is the only answer. If you start fining the hell out of employers who hire illegals (or jail them...whatever) the jobs will vanish.
Of course prices will increase, but ....nobody will moan about that until the prices rise....then they'll complain even more.

Not really. I don't know what you're getting at.
I'm saying people who come across the border illegally....as opposed to people who have immigrated legally.
