The Unbearable Entitlement of Dabo Swinney

https://www.thenation.com/article/the-unbearable-entitlement-of-dabo-swinney/Stolen from the MSB.
I wonder if the author would have written this article if OSU and Washington had played in the championship game? I wonder if the author also blames the murder rate in Chicago on slave owners from a 150 years ago? If I remember correctly the Union won the civil war, so don't they "own" the responsibility of correcting/fixing all issues/problems faced by blacks since that point forward.
quote:
Clemson’s clueless—and filthy rich—champion coach represents everything wrong with college football.
quote:I am so embarrassed for the South. We should follow the lead of the Big 10 and Pac 12 and not provide scholarships to black athletes for our entertainment. Northern schools would never exploit the athletic ability of a black student. Northern schools are ethically and morally superior to their counterpart slave owning southern colleges.
Two schools from the heart of Dixie. Two head coaches in Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney who make staggering sums of money. Two teams that are overwhelmingly African American and—in a move that might make past alumni spin in their graves—led by African-American quarterbacks. Two teams with defenses unafraid to unleash helmet-to-helmet hits against their opponents: hits that sent these “amateur” players into a sideline “tent” where they could be ministered to by school trainers away from prying eyes. Two teams whose rabid student sections were overwhelmingly, if not entirely, white, living vicariously through the violent exploits of their black classmates.

When you call everyone on this board who can breath through his nose a liberal, remember what real liberals look like.
I like Dabo. Pimp arse name, too.

I blame it on slaveowners from 400 years ago. They'd be killing each other in Africa, not Chicago.

those white (and black and hispanic non athlete) students pay for the school of the black athletes on the field.

So the author has no issue whatsoever categorizing every alumnus of Alabama and Clemson a racist.

That's so effing insulting. Passing off college football like it's some kind of Django negro-slave fight.
1st- I see plenty of black fans at all games. Especially if they are a student. Black adults typically follow the NFL, at least they do here in the ATL.
2nd- most of those white kids cheering would LOVE to be on the field- they just weren't good enough. Hell, I would've given my left nut to play for UGA. They just didn't need a 185lb tightend with no speed and marginal hands at the time.
Writer sounds like a pussy.

Why did he put "tent" in quotations? Is he implying that it's not really a tent?

yet another college football is a plantation story . . .

The solution would be to stop offering black players football scholarships.

Liberals would be conflicted about college football in the 1890s. On one hand the players were all white. But on the good side there were no well paid coaches. In fact, college football originally did not have any coaches at all. The team was run by the 'captain' who was one of the players.
When coaches were added the player/captain still had veto power during the game regarding substitutions.
IE:
Coach: "Bielski, go in there for Tootsman."
Captain: "Bielkski, what are you doing out here?"
Bielski: "Coach told me to go in for Tootsman."
Captain: "Coach is a moron. Go back to the bench now!"

Dave Zirin repeatedly calls for boycotts of sports events. Then he'd have to get a real job if he were successful. He sees everything through racist lens. He just ALWAYS seems to be on the other side of the argument . . . He's against Tim Tebow, for Barry Bonds, etc.

This is when you know the entire article had zero thought put into it
When is the last time anyone reading this fluff piece was examined for healt reasons in front of thousands of 'prying eyes'?
Hell, I imagine if HIPAA was properly applied, every school would be required to examine their injured athletes in tents, away from prying eyes

The thrust of the article is insufferable and silly - but it does sort of convey a coming truth that I see as inevitable: white kids are going to stop playing football. The CTE stuff has made major inroads with white soccer moms in the suburbs who are already comically over-protective. Youth football is drastically down, and it's only a matter of time before that spills over to high school and then college. It's very easy to imagine that 15-25 years from now, it will basically be only poor blacks and Mexicans playing football. If at that point in time the stands are still filled with older white people, that will seem kind of perverse. (I already comment on the bizarre contrast of country music and/or old hard rock being the soundtrack at stadiums and on TV despite the fact that probably less than 5% of players listen to that stuff.) The only other decent point is about Tillman Hall. Just change the name already.

Why is it perverse? Are you suggesting white people watching black people perform is perverse?
You'll never escape racism with that perspective
