The political establishment in this country hates Vladimir Putin because he has succeeded in showing that American politics is as much an oligarchy as is Russian politics.
Putin isn't a good guy, but anyone in our government, Republican or Democrat, who tells you we must oppose him because he's a bad guy hasn't been following our foreign policy, the foundation of which has been supporting third-world dictators when it's in our interest.

We've invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, bombed Libya and Syria, conducted drone wars in Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan and fomented civil wars in Egypt and the Ukraine, to name a few.
As for meddling in elections around the world, the United States is the gold standard. Ask the people of Argentina, Chile and Iran to name a few.
If Russia is evil for the things you listed, what does that make us? It's funny arguing with Democrats these days because y'all sound like neoconservative Republicans with the Red Scare bullshite.

Listen, I absolutely agree with you about this. You must admit that most Americans don't know about our dirty history and don't want to know.
However, I'm sure you''ll agree that this is still the greatest country in the world. Despite our past sins, that doesn't mean that we don't respond, investigate and impose sanctions on a country that has made such a widespread, deliberate, and dangerous attack on our institutions.
Finally, please think about it honestly. You would never ever make this argument if it were Obama's campaign that had been cozy with the Russians.

What do you mean by "our"? Progressives have made it crystal clear that they won't tolerate opposing viewpoints anymore.
So there's no shared "we" in America, and progressives are responsible.
Putins interests align with mine wherever he is going against the globalist progressive behemoth that is trying to dominate our lives and turn the entire world into Brazil.
