The end of speech and political discourse. It's depressing.

quote:

Counter-protest attendees told NBC News they viewed the free speech rally, taking place at the same time, as code for hate speech. “I think as a country you have a right to free speech,” said Boston resident Beth Chandler, “but there’s a difference to me with hateful speech and free speech. And a lot of what the separatists are saying is hateful speech and there’s not a place for that in our country.”

And there you have it, Directly from a pawn on the ground. However the leadership on the left or the media wants to spin this, this quote shows what this fight is all about.

Believing that this will stop with Confederate statues, the KKK or neo-Nazis is naïve. This is going to spread like a virus until you can't say anything or discuss any subject that hurts anyone else's feelings.

When I was a kid I remember seeing a KKK rally on TV news and my dad said "those guys are fricking idiots ". But he made it very clear to me that they had the right to say whatever they wanted to say because it was a slippery slope once you told any one person that they weren't allowed to speak because of their views.

This is a more dangerous idea than anything white nationalists are parroting.

hateful speech. . . there’s not a place for that in our country

"doublethink" - The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies—all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth. So one person's views "sum up" the left's current position, but the views of the pro-Trump white supremicists don't represent the right?

Nice cherry picking.

Well. You share the views, so there's that.

When they start to say stuff like "the KKK is back and we're going to start with your kind" it is no longer protected by the first amendment.

That hasn't really been happening outside of a few dumb individuals.

These young Leftists aren't old enough to remember when the US woke up every day in a Cold War with a Communist dictatorship that could annihilate us at any second.

They never learned to hate Commies, so they were susceptible to being turned into Commies.

I think the white supremicists have every right to hold "free speech" rallies. Of course, they also have a agenda that extends way past protecting the constitution.

You are out of your fricking mind if you don't think most Lefties believe this. See, Leftism DEPENDS on State force of conformity, so restricting speech is right in line w that toxic worldview of theirs.

If said directly to an individual, that could be interpreted as a threat of bodily harm. That's already covered under current law.

Antifa want to commit actual bodily harm to shut down ideas they don't agree with.

Who is to say what qualifies as hate speech. Things you don't agree with?

Doesn't matter.
The entire point of free speech is to protect against hate speech.
Feel-good speech needs no protection.

Dude free speech is pretty well protected by the constitution. Most Americans believe in free speech.

Link to where anyone is being prosecuted for hate speech?

The left is the most extreme example of sore losers we've seen in quite some time.
