spent 22 yrs in the army I don't think its disrespecting the flag. the flag is not what I fought for in nam and several other countries

Honestly, I can see someone having issue with the Pledge of Allegiance, because what if the government goes tyranical and we have to take it back. A pledge from your average citizen I think debatably stands against what the founding fathers stood for.
But the National Anthem, get the frick out of here. That song is all about American ideals and how this country is fricking awesome. Every American should defend the American dream and defend it in case the government goes tyranical or there's some sort of coup.

First, let me say that I highly respect your service. /salute But the flag is a symbol of our nation. It's a symbol of the freedom we hold so dear. What exactly did you fight for in nam and several other countries? And what do you think is the purpose of the NFL player protests?
What I do know is that the NFL has a clearly stated rule regarding respectful behavior during the National Anthem and these players are violating those rules. If they want to protest, then they should have worked with the NFL and the owners to change the rules. It's not unlike this illegal immigration bullshite. They can't change the law so the left ignores the law to benefit their agenda. This is no different. It's all about pushing their agenda.

So if it's a symbol of the "freedom we hold so dear" and a group of people believe that that freedom either doesn't exist or is limited to only some, why would protesting said symbol be out of line?

Almost 30 stars on that flag represent the states that NEVER participated in the slave trade. Why piss on them?

because racial injustice didn't end with slavery. It is still ongoing in our country today

That's a lot of saluting, thank you for your service. Now go stand next to those flag draped coffins with mothers, fathers, wives, children, weeping and tell them that that flag does not represent the country that their loved one gave the ultimate sacrifice for. You know better!!!

Everyone stands for the flag in North Korea.
Standing for the flag is not what makes this country great.
Obedience to rituals is not what defines a person's patriotism.
WWII was not fought so our leadership could demand our people to comply. It was fought for the ability to still raise our flag high up and ensure the people standing under it have the right to criticize it's government and policies without fear of retribution like the autocrats we just defeated.

I agree, but no one is calling out the racist blacks and their hateful actions, supported by useful idiot white liberals and their ilk. Why do you suppose that is?

Trump called them sons of bitches. That kind of thing motivates football players to stick together and stand up to it. None of this is complicated. Trump made it personal. Got nothing to do with the flag.

imho, these players, with their protests during the anthem, are attacking the only thing that all Americans have always been able to come together to rally behind: the USA and all the freedoms and opportunities it guarantees.
There will always be calls for change on this or that, but once we're divided on respect, appreciation, and love of country, what's left that we have in common, that will draw us together?
Protesting is their right and no one has a problem with it. They just need to do it at another time and place. It's the timing and venue that's inciting anger.

The tribal mind. Not surprising for some reason.
