"The Eighties" on Netflix (not great)

Anyone seen CNN's take on the 1980s in the United States of America? If you haven't, Idk if I'd recommend it for historical purposes. Two of the episodes of the seven-part miniseries primarily deal with Reagan. The rest deal with television, AIDS, and wall street greed.
The episode titled the "Reagan Revolution" talks about Reagan's vast popularity in the '80s. However, like half of the episode is spent on the Iran Contra affair and another good portion of it is spent on the 1981 recession and how it was the result of Reaganomics. It also fails to mention Mikhail Gorbachev or Soviet communism once. For someone who didn't live through the '80s (like me) the episode leaves you very confused as to how Reagan was so popular.
The other episode was called "Tear down this wall" and was focused on the end of the Cold War. While this episode wasn't necessarily anti-Reagan, it seemed to be sort of a sloppy take on the Cold War. It didn't describe very well what went on during the summits and the steps the Reagan administration took to challenge the Soviets to keep up with United States economically and technologically. It also depicts the signing of the INF treaty as a surprise, spur-of-the-moment decision made by Mikhail Gorbachev out of the kindness of his heart.
Hopefully this new upcoming Reagan biopic will accurately depict him and his presidency, but I doubt it.

I wouldn't trust a tabloid like CNN with a historical documentary.

I'll stick with "I love the 80's".
CNN can get fricked.

CNN sucks but I watched all these series and they did a good job. The 70's series was good too.

CNN is a tabloid. It is the TV version of the National Enquirer. Don't watch their programs.

Although I was a child, I lived through the 80s and I liked the series. Brought back a lot of memories.

These were indeed big deals in the 80s. AIDS had us scared shitless.

I watched it when it ran last spring. It's why I started watching Cheers

I enjoyed the series, thought it was well done.

CNN tried an underhanded hatchet job on Reagan with The Eighties. It's a shame because the 60s and 70s were so good. My wife (who isn't old enough to remember him) got particularly annoyed with the AIDS episode and quipped, "Those gays were a bunch of brats. It just looks like they wanted him to stop and drop everything for an instant cure so they could go back to their 70s bathhouse orgies."

It was bad.
This was like some millennial who read about the 80's on some website, writing and directing all the episodes for the show.
It was comic book. I'm surprised they didn't have a full-hour show on "Killer Bees!"
I mean, if you watch the show - you think the entire decade was Gordon Gecko, Rock Hudson AIDS and the advent of mobile phones.
The politics segment was pathetic. Again, a coloring book description that you'd learn as a freshman in high school.
Might as well had a segment on this - would have been more interesting.

My childhood heroes:
My grandad (a cattle and row crop farmer), Ronald Reagan and John Wayne.
I'm sure no one who didn't live through the 1980's doesn't understand what a shitshow our government, military and economy was when Reagan was sworn in on 1/20/1981. I really doubt CNN did him any favors emphasizing this, either. It doesn't fit their narrative.
Much like Netflix has done with The Crown and Winston Churchill (an otherwise decent series except they make Churchill out to be an imbecile), I'm sure CNN has done with The 80's and Reagan.

For somebody who wasn't there, your wife has a pretty good handle on the situation.

So, it is not a great documentary because it did not portray Reagan the way you wanted it? Got it.

Not what I said at all. Let me reiterate.
