The divide among American citizens is only going to grow, but I believe most people are oblivious to the real issues.

1. There are not two sides. There are multiple sides and each of them feels either victimized or oppressed. Over time it has become fashionable to be a victim rather than a victor. The real world outside of our bubble doesn't work that way.

2. Logic and common sense have been so neglected in favor of feelings and emotional decisions that actual discussion about issues is impossible. This is further mitigated by political correctness. Honest debates are simply not possible with a large percentage of the population.

3. Pseudo-intellectualism has replaced common sense. People are walking around on all sides believing pure insanity. A person's world view is shaped by their beliefs, and there are so many lies being hailed as truths that many people are purely deluded.

4.There is no trust. No trust in government, media, the church, schools, neighbors,etc...

5. Our country has no central crisis or goal. The "greatest generation" was drawn together by the need to overcome the Depression and fight World War II. They worked together, despite differences, to attain their goals and avert disaster. Each successive generation has had it easier. Wealth and free time has created a society of staunch individualists with no national identity.

6. The rise of secular humanism and ambiguous morals have clouded the boundaries between right and wrong. There is no longer any type of true moral compass. People no longer feel the need to treat others with any respect. We have become coarse and mean, even Southerners. The anonymity of internet discourse has magnified this.

I will stop there, but there are probably a dozen other factors. Most people are moderate and desire stability, but they are not vocal. Common sense will eventually prevail, but it is going to take more upheaval before that happens.

There are two violent/potentially violent fringe groups..

ANTIFA types on the extreme left
Fascist white nationalists on the extreme right

And then everyone else at or near the middle. The bulk of the country.

Most people, as in the silent majority, will speak again in 2018.

And the nutjobs will be asking what went wrong again.

Another big issue is subjective and biased media coverage of certain events that happen in this country. Its pushed to the edge where it fuels certain groups with a lot of hatred.

If you watch TV, you would assume all cops hate black people and just target them according to MSM but thats not true.

I feel a lot of stuffed is blown out of proportion to where big clashes like today happen.

It's criminal that the media hypes up events like this as if they are the norm and the world we actually live in, while in reality we on a daily basis work, live, love, and interact with an innumerable amount of people from all walks of life.

Every major news channel should have a daily show highlighting all the little things that make up our daily routine, and all the respect and gratitude we take part in on a daily basis.

That's the reality of life in America. It only seems divided because drama and tension sells.

The vast majority of people never see anything like what the news depicts.

Go to any SEC football game, sit, look, and listen to all the people around you, all the types of people coming together to have fun: black people, white people, yellow people (at vanderbilt especially), peacefully enjoying life and its blessings.

That's reality.

frick the news for not making it more salient.

This is the biggest issue. Ideologues have replaced common sense/pragmatic thinking

The news reporting is not the norm but they continue to depict this is how America operates everyday. Its disgusting because in general, everyone of all races in our communities get along and are good human beings. They just continue to push the bat shite crazy people and the drama that ensues. Its pure politics and propaganda.

In the end, it just makes everything worse, yet these morons still don't see it

You forgot a few things.

The constant names used to describe the GOP by MEANY of the Democrat leaders. Pelosi, Ellison, Waters, Boxer, Shummer, etc...

Then the Media who is bent on taking Trump out.

quote:

ascist white nationalists on the extreme right

And the right knows that and condemns them and pushes them out.

9/11, in terms of national pride and coming together as one people, was a total Pyrrhic victory. The actions taken after 9/11 are directly responsible for the divide we have today. The iraq war, the 2004 election, all that stuff is what started this.

When you walk around a store and go to work do you have massive conflict with people unlike you?

Stop buying the fear.

The divide is fake and advertised.

This is absolutely the truth, my friend.

The divide is far more real than you realize. I am certainly not in fear of those around me, but I am aware of a steady change in demeanor. Denying that there is a divide does not make it go away.

Yes, that's why you need to side with your people and stand firm
