re: Teacher yells at student for questioning Obama

That entire classroom environment is disturbing.

Not only the ignorance of the teacher, but the lack of discipline and all the talking and cursing, the lack of respect for the teacher (even if she's unworthy, the kids should still exercise it), and a student threatening to call his dad because he disagrees with the teacher?

There was no intellectual structure to that place at all.

Losing all around in that classroom.

I gotta tell ya, the old school Catholic regime where if you talked out of line you were condemned to a series of beatings by a group of nuns ... I think there's something to be said for that model. At least they had control of their classrooms.

re: Teacher yells at student for questioning Obama

A thousand hours of disrespect from a child doesn't justify a single second of political bias in the classroom as far as I'm concerned.

just depends on the class. my free enterprise/civics teacher was a flaming liberal and it came out in class discussions. she was also a latina, so she got VERY emotional about it

if the class involves discussion, a teacher isn't required to be an unbiased observer, imho

this sounded like a high school class, so hopefully they were beyond rote memorization posing as teaching

these guys OBVIOUSLY knew the buttons to push to get her to react, also. she may not be that biased in normal circumstances...we don't know. we only get a 10 minute slice

Right, but the definition of "unbiased" simply means free from unfair prejudice. That doesn't mean she can't have an opinion. It doesn't even mean she can't state she believes her opinion is superior to others. It simply means if she states her opinion she should offer a platform for the respectful introduction of competing opinions.

This teacher screwed up when she entertained the whole "Romney, yes, but Obama, awww hell no" dialogue.

And the kids Bush counter was a pretty good one, particularly with respect to him bringing up the fact that even he himself was critical of Bush, as (likely) everyone has been at some point or another. This should be viewed as normal. Equally condemning Obama's bullying is not disrespecting the office of the POTUS. If bullying is wrong, anyone who does it falls within that same condemnation, be they Presidents or not.

You have a moron teaching the class and you expect intellectual structure?

Yes, because that can come from more than just the teacher. Schools often take on the personalities of their leadership. I'd be willing to bet that this particular classroom is not the only one on that campus with major issues.

Really? What would you need to form an opinion on her incompetence? IMHO it takes less than three minutes to form an opinion she is an incompetent teacher and should not be teaching functional children or kids above the age of 4.

Perhaps that was a substitute.

The teacher has clearly lost her ability to remain objective in the classroom.

She should step down or teach class that has nothing to do with her political beliefs.

If not she should be fired.

Which is why I am in no way surprised that she doesn't know what slander is. What a dumb bitch.

well yeah she sounds dumb as frick

i meant more her emotional response and bias, as i was discussing earlier in the thread

i don't think this 10 minutes accurately depicts her day in, day out state. i doubt seriously she's an emotional wreck every class throwing out super bias at her class

re: Teacher yells at student for questioning Obama
What I just viewed is what typically goes on in a public school classroom. My neighbor pulled her kid from the public school system when her teacher taught the class that the U.S. consisted of 52 states. The kids that did put down the correct answer on the test had it marked wrong by the educator. I actually witnessed a spelling bee where the participants were asked to spell the word orchard. After ten kids were told to be seated after spelling the word correctly, the teacher then used it in a sentence. Her sentence was, The orchard is a very beautiful flower.

Sounds like they were asked to spell the word "orchid" but were unaware of this due to the pronunciation. Seems like some one would have asked it to be used in a sentence before this happened 10 times. Was this an ebonics issue?

re: Teacher yells at student for questioning Obama
It wasn't an ebonics issue. They have teachers who actually have no idea how to pronounce a word correctly. What really disturbed me about this incident is the fact that the teacher is an eighth grade English teacher.

Welcome to government schools for the most part dominated by liberals in bed with Obama. No surprise here. Good things ahead.

This. That classroom was completely out of control. Students should not be allowed to interrupt a teacher....ever. And when the teacher acknowledges the student, the teacher needs to be quiet and listen to what the student has to say. Terrible teacher all around. And her opinion that a sitting president should not be disrespected is certainly valid, but that kid, in that particular exchange did not disrespect President Obama.
