Hell surprise. It wasn't enough.

'Take 'Em Down NOLA' president Malcolm Suber called for streets such as General Ogden and Jefferson Davis Parkway to be renamed and the monument to President Andrew Jackson, though unassociated with the Confederacy, to come down.

Yeah, that's right... the man who defended the city from being sacked by the British in the war of 1812 has to come down too.

Anyone who shares a last name with a notable Confederate individual must immediately change it.

some guy wanted to pump $700 million to renovate rampart from canal to esplanade and they told him to pound sand because "cultcha"

but you want to remove some super old statues, hell have at it

These people are toxic to society. To harbor such hate without understanding or justification is pretty sad. These artifacts are a piece of the history of the City of New Orleans. Weather you like them or not, they are a part of history, OUR history as a country. The Civil War was about so much more than slavery. Slavery was a very small piece of why the Confederacy resigned from the Union. It was more about state's rights. People need to educate themselves on the actual history and not just assume that these are marks of "white supremacy". These monuments and street names are in remembrance of the men of history.

I'll wait for that Aggie douche bag to show up shortly with his "Cult of the Lost Confederacy" bullshite.

Just wondering...where do they propose to raise the "private donations" to cover all of this?

I saw Suber on the local news last night, and he was upset at Landrieu for not going the extra mile after the monument removal and for not ordering the renaming of streets or the removal of Jackson.

It is never going to end with these lunatics.

I'm so glad the ancients were not infected with this soul-destroying virus or else the pyramids and the coliseum would have long been leveled so that some small group of 18 yr old Egyptian/Roman felt 'triggered' by what they represented.

If Jackson loses his statue, then there should be no statutes. If a president, who saved the city during a war with a foreign power, can't keep a statue up, then no one will be able to justify the existence of others.

I agree with you on a number of things, but this really isn't so:

"Slavery was a very small piece of why the Confederacy resigned from the Union. It was more about state's rights."

The specific state's right of overriding importance was the ability to decide the question of slavery. I still think the removal of the monuments (except for Liberty Place) to have been wrongheaded, but let's be honest about the reason for the War Between the States.

Its almost like removing the Lee and Davis statues empowered people to fight for the removal of anything they find offensive.

Crazy huh

I totally didn't expect this

There should be giant statues of Sheila Jackson-Lee in the place of the Lee and Jackson monuments.

That would be awesome. Think of all she's done for the country. It should be celebrated and NOLA loves to celebrate so what better place to start.

It could also help with the healing process. The names Lee and Jackson could still be associated with NOLA.

There were several actually.

One being Slavery, yes.

Others include lack of military protection from the federal government (Texas). Northern exploitation of (tax evasion) of southern manufacturing. Insufficient support from the federal government was another major issue. I suggest reading the Declaration of Causes as it pertains to the secession from the Union. Right, wrong, or indifferent, the civil war was about slavery and a hell of a lot more.

Slavery can't be brought back as an institution in the South.

The democrats are out of power.

Thanks to New Orleans I can go to any other third world shite hole and survive even thrive. Also the city has always operated like this, want something done? Better hire a private contractor because once the city gets involved prices go up and people want money, period.

I really don't give a flying frick about the Lee and Davis statues....they as people did nothing for the City of New Orleans. Liberty Place was a POS monument celebrating murder of cops.....But, Jackson saved this swampy latrine from being overrun by Packenham and burned....because that is what the British did....see Washington D.C. in the War of 1812.

Suber can burn in hell sucking on a bag of necrotic dicks for all I care. Frickwad also wants to take down the statue to the LeMoyne Brothers....for that I will gladly arrange for an excavator to show up at his residence and place the debris in pink dumpster. and then pour muriatic acid all over it.

Give 'em an inch...............

The PC crowd is running amok in New Orleans with the help of the mayor and many of the olitici9ans who are using RE Lee, PGT Beauregard, Andrew Jackson and others as an excuse for their failures and the corruption that has reduced New Orleans in stature.

New Orleans had no rival in the deep south at one time, but unfortunately after the 1950s those that were given the keys to the city led it down the road to near collapse.

Fortunately there is a layer of success still in New Orleans to build on, but the people in charge don't care. It's all about lining their pockets, helping their cronies and milking a once great city for its worth.

The statues and all this other crap are just a big distraction to hide their incompetence.
