Rainey also said St. George leaders will no longer update the public about how many signatures they have collected.

Earlier in January, he said they had about 10,000 signatures, but the number cannot be validated because St. George leaders never made the lists of signatures public and there is no legal requirement for the group to disclose its signature counts.
Anybody know why they will no longer disclose their numbers??

Their Sunday evening social meeting drew "over 150 persons" representing approximately 0.14% of the population of the St George area.

Here we go again. There is definitely something nefarious going on with the SG organizers not disclosing the numbers. I bet they aren't doing it because they are going back and counting every black persons signature as 3/5's a vote.

Seriously, you really really need to get one of these mats.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Weren't the lunch tickets $150/each? I guess you have to put a negative spin on their successful fund raising efforts.

Good for St George.

And the place they held the fundraiser couldn't hold many more than 150.

Not really the best time to be holding a meeting.

Seems to me like they've been stuck around the 10,000 mark for a while. I know there's no deadline for collecting signatures, but one would think that with all of the support for this support for incorporation, the collection of the signatures would at least be close to being finished.

Are you saying the organizers are not very bright scheduling their gathering on a Sunday evening?

It probably had something to do with the restaurant where they held it donating their facility and free food and free booze. Maybe Sunday evenings are relatively slow nights for them.

This agrees with what I was told a couple of weeks ago that the signatures have really slowed down since mid-December.

It appears their signature drive has peaked - how many months have they been at it? It appears they are stuck around mid way (9,000 to 10,000) that is their numbers - so could be a little fudging.

Well. if I pay 125.00 to attend a meeting, I don't consider the food and booze free.

BTW I thought it interesting that the owner of the restaurant complained that the City Parish is promoting his competitors, by staging events downtown.

Never thought about that............Still haven't decided though.

All of the money collected went to the organizers. The food, drinks and venue were donated by the restaurant according to the article I linked.

Unless you're saying people viewed it as a food and drink event and not as a fund raising event for their special cause. To them, it's not free.
