I've never met a single professor who espoused anything close to communist beliefs. Liberal? Sure. But even the liberal professors were usually quite fond of making money like a capitalist.

I'm glad rational thought showed itself early in this absurd thread. Professors are well paid. They aren't in favor of ration lines.

Seriously. Universities are absolutely unnecessary in society. Who needs doctors, engineers, computer scientist, etc?

Anti-intellectualism has reached an absurd level in this country. Young people have always been more liberal and idealistic. But willfully staying ignorant and thinking smart people are the enemy, is what's leading this country into Idiocracy.

Edit: and I didn't finish college. But I found a trade that allows me to make 6 figures by myself mid thirties. It's an important blue collar job that makes America's a better place for generations. I of all people know that college isn't a requirement for everyone. But to call it evil is the definition of ignorance.

I'd say a solid 20% of professors have a soft spot in their heart for Marx

I went to college at lsu 30 years ago and every department except history and business were loaded with communists. if you want to say socialist instead, fine. but it has only gotten worse.

What's that got to do with their ability to teach thermodynamics?

I've taught at large universities and that isn't my experience.

Marxism is much more alive on college campuses than it is in the world as a whole

Maybe, but it depends on department and who is the popular theorist. For a while it was Marcuse, then Derrida, a host of others like Judith Butler, Antonio Negri and now, from what I can tell, is Zizek. This is for English. In History I know that Hayden White was very popular for his work on histiography, but I don't think there is a cogent Marxism on college campuses.

A lot of the Marxists at Universities are what you may call analytical Marxists. Marx was a social scientist and offered a way to study and explain human societies through time. A lot of people use Marxist analysis in studying history, society, economics, culture, and so on but that doesn't make them revolutionary Marxist socialists.

That number is more like 90 in Architecture and the rest of the College of Art and Design. They even forced us to volunteer for ACORN after Katrina.

I am a university professor.
At the risk of tossing out a statement without a citation, I'd say that number is easily higher than 20%.
I had a colleague openly admit during a faculty meeting that her philosophical, political, and social ideology leaned far left of communism.
The room of peers simply nodded--if not in agreement, certainly in understanding.

Academia was overrun by socialists in the 60s and 70s. They have a stranglehold
