So trump is cutting the arts, library funding, and legal services for the poor.

Along with agencies that help economic growth in the south and NE. I'm shocked he's also cutting the agency that investigates corporate chemical accidents. I'm not surprised a man who has no culture, who can't put together a coherent statement and has made a living off scamming people that these would be his first cuts. Not the bloated Military budget or corporate welfare but the programs to help people succeed and grow internationally. So we're gonna have people who can't read or understand culture be ruled over by corporations. Who knew idiocracy was a documentary?

I didn't realize you still needed government funded programs in 2017 to have access to books and art. You learn something new every day. Maybe some time down the road people will invent a World Wide Web of sorts where you could find these things on the line.

It's nice to read a book, and see plays and exhibits. It's called culture.

Exactly. One doesn't need the government in 2017 to pay for these things to find culture. The world has advanced and technology is a wonderful thing.

So before 1965, the year of the NEA's creation, the poor did not have access to art? Give me a break.
You people are why it is impossible to end a government program once it starts, even if it was meant to be temporary. You have no ability whatsoever to comprehend the possibility that other people and entities will step in to take the place of the government.
Americans spent 17.07 BILLION DOLLARS in 2016 on arts and entertainment. You think none of that was money spent by the poor?

Man, you guys simply worship the government. It is the difference between hell and heaven to y'all.

“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.”

None of those agencies do anything. Read the report the Trump administration released explaining their reasoning. Most of the "groups for the poor" have DUPLICATE efforts elsewhere in the government that are far more effective.

You can't access a lot books library's have and art doesn't look the same on a screen than in person. Go have a beer and watch sports.

Trump and reasoning don't seem to be working together as of late.
I wonder if his report is more or less factual than his Twitter feed. He probably read some Breitbart articles on the arts and decided it wasn't necessary.

Much of the technology behind the World Wide Web came from publicly supported research and development, and many online information and culture resources are products of public institutions (universities, NEA grants, etc.).

Trump wants to cut programs for poor children too.

Yep, all art and literature will cease because of this.

I actually don't. Dems-pubs do. Like yourself. How about the military, corporate welfare, The police dept of ed, SS, Medicare all be ended as well. I'm alll for ending government waste. Why don't we just end it all?

And? Universities will still exist and people won't magically forget how to do research. The programs were good to get technology off the ground but the product has outgrown the teacher. Government funded programs for the arts aren't needed to keep feeding the beast. It's will continue to grow and thrive no matter what Democrats or Republicans do in the political arena.

My kid checks out a book every week from the library at his public school. We don't need to borrow money from China to read the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
You really want to print money or borrow money from China to print materials that destroy the environment?
