Yea the weird thing about the Trump phenomenon is that Obama was pretty strong on illegal immigration. He deported more illegal immigrants than Bush, for example, all while the number of illegals coming in the country was dropping.

That's only because they reclassified "voluntary returns" as deportations. Previously someone caught at the border and turned around were listed as "voluntary returns", now they're counted as deported, and makes the "deportation" numbers go up.
Immigrants living illegally in most of the continental U.S. were less likely to be deported than before Obama.
