With Trump's proposal of cutting foreign aid down to 50 billion, which I totally agree with and should be cut to 10 billion, couldn't we fund a single payer system with the money we keep? We could also do a whole lot more to improve OUR country with that money, but this would be a great start

So instead of addressing the debt lets just look for more ways to grow mommy gov and continue ignoring the debt?

Sounds like a great plan. Let's do it.

No single payer...No freaking way, would not work here...Unless its Bill Gates paying, and not the Gov't. Gov't screws up EVERYTHING!

Sure, if you believe in destroying the quality of our HEALTH CARE system (please don't confuse "Health Care" with "Health Coverage")

Nope. Single payer is crap. When I have an issue I appreciate that I get prompt attention and appropriate scans within the week. I appreciate that I have little to no wait.

Government run systems are not the answer. So no, single payer is not a good option, EVER!

Fedgov is just a massive monopoly that can never be usurped. Imagine granting power to say WalMart over every aspect of healthcare and then ask yourself if that is ideal? Then ask yourself the question about single payer again.

A much more elegant, not to mention cheaper, solution that also acknowledges the coming robotic revolution AND deals with Social Security and Medicare is a UBI.

Let' make sure qualifying Americans have a basic income of $24K a year , no welfare programs to supplement that, means tested or otherwise and buy your own insurance.

How about that?

No such thing. Millions of taxpayers will be soaked into paying.

Whatever money that cut would save is not really money the federal government has so maybe we shouldn't be so eager to use those IOUs on something else.

I have a question for you lib types.

How big do you want mommy to get? In other words, where is the line that says enough of mommy. It ends here.

Because you can never define that line, the rest of us are suspicious of you.

This is the problem right here. The fact that you think those foreign aid cuts would even approach the costs of free Scandinavian type health care for all is amazing.

Does no one understand that we are talking about trillions of dollars here? Even Hillary Clinton admits we can't afford it.

True, but if we make those cuts and continue them for the long haul we will significantly reduce "debt" and still allocate our resources here where they need to be

The type of people that would qualify as "qualifying Americans" for a $24k yearly UBI would not take it upon themselves to buy their own insurance hence the need for a mandate for these folks.

We could also do something like, i don't know, legalize marijuana and tax it. That tax revenue would go a long, long way.

or just not have government involved in health care at all? have people be responsible for their own health care?

are those the opposite extremes on this issue?
