SIAP: Shortage Of Foreign Labor Forces Maine Businesses To Hire Local Workers

Heaven forbid you have to hire people in your local community. The nerve of these places piss me off.

In other words they can find anyone near by to do the job for cheap so they bring in the cheap labor.
Why don't you look for people in the community first before going over seas first.

Because the H-2B visa program has already reached its annual quota, Bar Harbor’s hotels, restaurants and shops can’t bring in any more foreign workers for the rest of the busy summer tourist season. Like hundreds of similar coastal resort towns, Bar Harbor has for many years depended on the H-2B visas for temporary workers. The program allows non-agricultural companies to bring in foreign labor if they are unable to find suitable employees domestically.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce will hold a job fair Saturday in an effort to recruit significant numbers of workers from the region. Just about every kind of business in the town is looking for help, says chamber executive director Martha Searchfield.

I was in Bar Harbor last summer. I was honestly surprised with the number of foreigners working in the stores, restaurants, and hotels. Mostly from the Philippines.

Local workers are trash for the most part in the construction industry.

What if they suck? What if I can hire more productive workers for a substantially reduced cost? Are you willing to pay more money for poorer service? Doubtful.
I'd like for my business to be as cost effective and efficient as possible while providing a cost competitive product or service. If that means hiring foreign workers then so be it. You can choose to do business with whomever you wish.

You don't get to decide who can immigrate to the U.S. Are you advocating completely open borders?

I'm advocating for capitalism. Capitalism works with the free flow of ideas, labor, and goods without the artificial impediments imposed by gov't.
Captitalism won't work if you allow the importation of a class of people without job skills or a desire to attain them and work. I think I recently read where out of several hundred thousand migrants to Sweden, or a similar country, about 250 had jobs.
Immigrants can't be allowed to come in and collect benefits.

I'll bet that 160 years ago you would have advocated for slavery.
