Should this be Frederick Douglass Day instead?

I personally feel he was a greater man than MLK and did more to advance the cause of racial equality. Maybe that's just me.

Really, a National Holiday for Fredeick Douglass!

Seems like the point would be there should be a Civil Rights Day and not the deification of any one man as the embodiment of Civil rights.

If only there was an entire month that celebrated the history of a minority group of Americans based solely on that group's skin color.

Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Harriet Tubman, etc.

Many names I would put before MLK, but whatever.

Not even close:

quote:

Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them.
Frederick Douglass

quote:

One and God make a majority.

quote:

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

quote:

A gentleman will not insult me, and no man not a gentleman can insult me.

quote:

A little learning, indeed, may be a dangerous thing, but the want of learning is a calamity to any people.

Douglass was a great quote machine

"if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall"

Most liberals would probably guess that remark was made by a modern Republican. Most would certainly say it came from a racist.

I bet Douglass would not say that today.

Based upon the attitude of Whites toward the slave class at that point in history he couldn't very well be pushing for affirmative action and quotas, any more than MLK really spoke about such things.

It is a process.

I'm not so sure.

Freddie was a bit of a proud elitist.

It's more of a shame that we do MLK overkill every year..

There have been countless influential blacks that should be revered by all and especially the black community. Instead we just push MLK down everyones throats every year.
