It's crazy when conservatives say they want smaller government, decrease spending and more individual liberties then advocate for wastind money on a laughingstock of a program that numerous studies have shown provided no value and perhaps even had an inverse effect on teenage drug use.

Would be a stupid move. Not all conservatives agree with R politicians.

I'm all for freedom & small govt, but I don't mind throwing a few public dollars at discouraging drug abuse, as long as:

1) it's just a few bucks, and

2) it's proven to be effective

Aren't you a public school teacher? Wanna guess what also hasn't proved effective with more funding?

I thought it was proven that participation in DARE correlates with higher drug use. Anyways, pretty sure I saw that somewhere.

The issue is government criminalizing unnecessary things, and continuing to double down on it when it's ineffective and harmful.

Besides liberty, as a principle, isn't bound to legal (often arbitrary) designations the government decides.

when the law is unjust, wholly ineffective and contrary to everything this country stands for. see, e.g.s, slavery and Jim Crow laws.

Take it up with those who write the law. DARE isn't encroaching on individual liberties. They are informing kids about drugs and how they're illegal

I'm a small govt conservative - the major duty of that government is to enforce the laws.

It there is a bad law, then the congress should change it. In the meantime = enforce the damned law!!!

btw - the best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce the hell out of it.

But I don't think it is a bad law - I want all drug dealing criminals in jail. I want drug users to be jailed UNLESS they reveal the person from whom they obtained the illegal drug.

ENFORCE THE DAMNED LAW - just like with Illegal Aliens - enforce the damned law!!!

Take all your bitching to your congressman. URGE the DOJ to enforce laws that the public doesn't support - that way the congressmen will be FORCED to change the law.

Whining at the DOJ is pathetic.

But not as much as the libertarians.

I'd classify myself with the Libertarian Party IF they were not composed of a bunch of mind-addled drug pissants.

No but you mentioned breaking the law. So now you're falling back on something else.

The OP should be bitching about Congress who wrote the law. Not a program created by the police force, whose job is to enforce the law. There is a distinction there

I had to to through the course. I don't think it's infringing on liberty, although I thought it was shown to be ineffective, so I don't support ineffective government policies.

Regardles I was responding to your point about breaking the law.
