moron

AA's were born here.

Our forefathers bought them. Yes, Obama and Michelle were from families who came more recently. Most AAs are descended from people who were already here in the 1800's. the average AA has just under 20% Native American DNA, too.
They are as American as apple pie.

This is a little vague, probably intentionally. Most blacks came to the US post civil war. I'll assume you knew this.

We have like 3 times as many people in prison compared to next largest country. There are not enough public prisons so in the 90's these big time donations came in by the the private prison owners. They received huge contracts and more and more private prisons were built. Now if you believe in mandatory minimums, war on drugs and the private prison industrial complex then by all means downvote me and give me your reasons for status quo?

all of this. Our prison system is a mess and needs major work. Its also a gigantic drain on our economy.

I just don't believe there are that many more people in this country committing crimes that need major prison sentences compared the rest of the world. We hold 25% of the entire worlds prison population. How does is this not get more play.

We have institutionalized our prison system. It's very sad and I think it's the next big civil rights fight. Republicans are positioning themselves on the losing side of this issue. I'm a Trump voter and supporter but this is their blind spot.

It's just not a priority now for Justice Dept..

If its something egregious I am sure a Sessions led DOJ will do the right thing. Under Obama, it seemed like police reform was at the top of the agenda and it resulted in a lot of unintended blowback to the officers on the street.

This is good. No more Ferguson and having to watch cops get shot on live TV as they protect protestors in Dallas and other parts of the country.

Good overview from a blog.

Some good point there.
That said, they are made to imply a black/white correlation that I don't think exists.
It implies that all costs are fixed and adde3d to the federal costs of incarceration..i.e. the fed facilities are full..the private have quotas "We have to pick someone of the street for some reason in order to make that quota". Is that how it works, or are prisoner simply transferred to those facilities is the quota doesn't look like it will be met? Also, in a private facility, the taxpayer is not responsible for the general upkeep, upgrades, maintenance, staff training, etc, etc.

Can refinements in the system be made..of course, but the idea that it is simply a predatory system seems simplistic imo.

He's not.

A few bad actors is not a reason to bring an entire department under a consent decree.

Link to frivolous one DOJ brought?

LINK

Private lawsuits were bolstered by "investigations" like that one and similarly in the DOJ investigation of Chicago PD, etc.

So you're cool with these political witch hunts every time a cop shoots a minority?

There are going to be witch hunts (investigations) every time a cop shoots a minority. It's a sign of the times and it ain't going away. Deal with it.

And by Sessions announcing that the DOJ is going to lighten up on civil rights actions against police, it just adds fuel to the fire.

He should have kept his mouth shut. What was his purpose in making the announcement???

Would you rather prosecute police officers the way that Baltimore did?

That's complete bullshite. You start a CR investigation if it's warranted, not "just because".

Just look at Ferguson. There was no evidence that Brown was shot because he was a minority and the DOJ knew it. They started an investigation to "keep it real". When they knew they had egg on their face, they said, "no civil rights were violated but the FPD is still racist".
