Really, Trump reversed the Obama ban on the use of private prisons. Remember the Clinton's turning us into police/ prison state in 1990's this is the same blueprint. They want to go after drugs.

I don't get the problem with private prisons. What is the problem?

So how does the "it's the law, not his job to decide when to enforce it" when it comes to Weed crowd feel about this one?

Yea, I don't want to see the weed supporters cry when Sessions comes down like a hammer on them. I might just start pulling for Sessions just because of the Judas's on the marijuana side think they are safe.

I don't think targeting bad policing is anti cop. However, it's not necessarily the racial issue incompetent politicians have made it.

I agree! Like so many other things during BHO's reign, the pendulum had swung too far to the left. Are people already forgetting BLM and open season on police officers?!?!

Do people on the right see videos of police murdering unarmed minorities and really think "yep, we need more of THAT to get our historically low crime rates even lower"?

Ummm...NO. Why would you think that??

In the last 10 years, how many videos of what you describe, can you point me to?

In the last 10 years, how many police/citizen contacts have been made?

Mainly the potential for corruption and urgency to fill cells.

Part of the shtick when he was being confirmed was the fact that Sessions had prosecuted civil rights cases when he was U.S. Attorney.

Ok. So maybe this is different because it is more specific and is pointed toward police.

But why in the fu©& come out and announce this. I know most of the conversation here will be "we don't care what anyone thinks."

But that's not the point. Do you think that announcing this is going to improve police safety within the communities in which they work? If you want to implement the policy go ahead, but don't go out of your way to publicize it.

Why hit the bee hive with a stick when you don't have to. IMO Sessions was a bad pick. He's a bad pick for the face of the Department of Justice.

(save your breath on harping back to Obama's AG. I'm talking about now and going forward).

We have like 3 times as many people in prison compared to next largest country. There are not enough public prisons so in the 90's these big time donations came in by the the private prison owners. They received huge contracts and more and more private prisons were built.

Now if you believe in mandatory minimums, war on drugs and the private prison industrial complex then by all means downvote me and give me your reasons for status quo?

How does a private business sentence people to their facilities?

Patriot Act says hi.
requires Trump to give the nod on each case though.

AG Sessions may be enough to account for people of color actually registering and voting in the off year 2018.

It really pisses me off that BLM hijacked the debate and ruined all chances of meaningful discussion on this issue.

Like this you obtuse motherfricker

LINK

quote:

The "kids for cash" scandal unfolded in 2008 over judicial kickbacks at the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Two judges, President Judge Mark Ciavarella and Senior Judge Michael Conahan, were convicted of accepting money from Robert Mericle, builder of two private, for-profit youth centers for the detention of juveniles, in return for contracting with the facilities and imposing harsh adjudications on juveniles brought before their courts to increase the number of residents in the centers

What is the next largest country?

That said, being a wealthy and free country attracts criminals. It's their nature.
How many criminals in jails and prisons today are illegal aliens?

THAT said, is your position that federal prisons lower the incarceration rate, or lack of facilities forces the release of criminals back to the general population?

As covered in my link, states often (usually) guarantee occupancy rates in private prisons.

This isn't the case. We're over legislated, over regulated and love to throw people in prison. We lead the world by far.
