This has been my mantra for decades now.
To fix this problem, we should take every federal department and immediately take out one-third of their money and one-third of their employees. Force everyone of them to examine their chartered mission and prioritize their activities accordingly.
Then, next year, each one should be subject to the exact same reduction unless they describe in detail what chartered mission requirement would go undone. All subject to congressional oversight.
Make them justify that guy in charge of arranging PR visits for the administrative assistant to the secretary of the manager for out of town conferences for the chairman of the committee to arrange political events for the deputy department head.
