Senate Democrats reject Lieberman for FBI director

President Donald Trump may be dramatically miscalculating how much support Sen. Joe Lieberman would have among his former Democratic colleagues if nominated to become FBI director.
Some Senate Democrats hold a grudge against Lieberman for his rightward turn and opposition to some of President Barack Obama's agenda late in his Senate career. Others say even though they respect Lieberman, the job of FBI director should not go to a former politician. And all Democratic senators interviewed for this story said the former Connecticut senator lacks the kind of experience needed for the post.
The 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate, who later caucused with the party as an independent in the Senate after losing his 2006 Senate primary, has emerged as a front-runner to replace fired FBI Director James Comey. But Lieberman's nomination likely would produce the most partisan vote for an FBI chief in Senate history. Typically, nominees for the job have been approved unanimously or with token opposition.
“I don’t think there's going to be much excitement about that from our side of the aisle. Not because we don’t respect Joe Lieberman. But we need a law enforcement professional, not someone who’s run for office before,” said Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). “We don’t need anyone who’s put on a red shirt or blue shirt — or who’s campaigned for president.” Lieberman ran for president in 2004.

Why can't he nominate someone with relevant experience?

1. Claire McCaskill
2. Let me translate: "We can't control Joe Lieberman. He thinks independently. So no."

Because his admin is a mess. He needs a steadying hand, who can guide him, if that is even possible. Like a non-evil Dick Cheney.

I certainly haven't been the biggest fan of the early days of the Trump presidency, but let's not kid ourselves here. Democrats are going to oppose Trump's FBI appointment even if he tapped the god-king Obama himself. This is a no-win situation for trump as far as the 'other side' of the aisle is concerned, so he might as well go for the most qualified candidate, political perceptions be damned.
And I don't think that Lieberman is that person.

This is probably the best outcome. I didn't like Lieberman's name being floated, so if the dems reject him, they look petty and we don't get Lieberman.

That's why you nominate Joe. Let the Democrats defeat their 2000 VP nominee.

Who gives a shite what they think?
The Senate Dems are going to oppose anyone the least bit fair, so to hell with them and their opinions.
The general public views Lieberman as a fair minded guy, so Dems would look like petulant children (big surprise) by opposing him.
If Lieberman is who Trump wants and Lieberman actually wants the job, he's getting it.
Senate Democrats are grossly unaware of their own irrelevance.

You mean when the Democrats primaried him?

The Republicans should oppose it as well. This would be a poor choice after putting himself, and the country, in this turmoil. He's really not a good President.

Trump has to nominate Lieberman now.
Would be a mistake to pass up the Dems eating one of their own.

Well, give them a real Clinton hater.
Give them someone who will help put Hillary and Podesta under the jail.
