Senators being informed of strategy and approach by US to “remove this threat” from #DPRK, adds senior administration official.

#China now views #DPRK as a threat to its interest and security, "that's a big shift," says sr. administration official.

President Trump has determined a course of action for responding to North Korea's continued nuclear missile development program, a senior administration official told reporters Wednesday, with U.S. military preparations "underway" for potential action.

"What the president has done is he's made a decision for us to pursue a certain course," the official told reporters in the White House briefing room, "and that course obviously has a number of options associated with it depending on how the situation develops in the future.

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Trump plans include "a broad range of options, obviously, across all elements of national power and multinational power in connection with North Korea."

"What you’ve seen is really an integrated effort to prioritize diplomatic and informational aspects of national power, but also what you’ll see soon is using the economic dimension of national power as well as the military preparations that are underway," the official said, barely 100 yards from where the entire U.S. Senate was receiving a briefing on the administration's strategy for North Korea.

Asked by a reporter to clarify what preparations are underway, the official declined to provide more information, saying, "I don't think we're going to describe those in any detail."

I think it would be in our countries best interest to not tell the media that we're having strategy sessions on removing the NorK threat. Just my opinion, but chubs doesn't need a heads up that we're planning anything.

I hope it's really that easy, but it never is. Even if it's like Iraq we still have the reconstruction. And in this case the Norks can inflict a great deal of pain on Japan and SK on their way down.

China has do be sick of Fatboy's antics, and they're increasingly aware of the fact that regime change has to happen sooner or later.

Best thing would be if the Chicoms engineer a coup and install a nominally Communist, de facto fascist regime in North Korea. Basically something like their own system. It would be an improvement and would prevent a failed state on their border.

An added bonus for them is SK no longer needs us. They'll keep us around for 5-10 years, but as NK liberalizes and a peace treaty is signed, we can reduce and eventually eliminate our presence. Both Koreas become major trade partners and drift into China's sphere of influence. Not great for us but we gain in terms of security and not having to overextend ourselves being World Police.

Hahaha. Not sure how to take that. I'm pro-MAGA(but I have no problem calling him out when wrong), but this is the same dumb thing with the last administration. I don't just blame Obama or Trump, but people in politics just can't keep their mouths shut any more.

Maybe this is just a Bluff or a slight of hand. Maybe the NorKs will spend their time worrying about us and China will handle the problem for everybody.

I just don't understand why our politicians want to talk off record and spill beans like this. No comment would still work fine.

This sounds a little cocky. I mean what if they fired a hundred missiles all at once towards the carrier strike group?

I prefer getting other countries to do the dirty work whenever possible. Let the Chicoms kill Fatboy. Let Putin destroy ISIS in exchange for him forcing Assad to call of his terrorists as a condition of continued support.

We still have to deal with Iran one way or another. But Syria and NK are places where our adversaries' interests coincide with ours.

Remove him and give NK to China. The norks would be better off and maybe China would know a few trillion of our debt in exchange.

I think he'll know anyway.

There is an agreement that SK must be consulted with before any military action against NK. Also almost 150k American citizens live in SK and a large portion would likely be extracted or warned.

And I'm sure NK spies will forward that information.

Plus the evacuation of Americans will be an obvious tipoff.

That statement wasn't very informative. Good. I don't want us tipping our hand.
