I suspect that 'secession' will manifest in and to the same degree, that Constitutional 'nullification' does. Particular legal agreements (Laws) lose their power, when said basis for agreement is infringed.
The very idea of a Federal *government* - and all the supposed power therein - is simply and 'agreement'. That agreement can dissolve in the space of a day. At that point, it would all come down to ENFORCING the (nullified) agreement...at the barrel of the gun. And in this particular nation/scenario...such an enforcement would be far less preferable than to just let the seceding States/regions go their way. Think...USSR.
The Fed's power is twofold...Military and Economic. The first - as a coercive power to manipulate secessionist regions - is a non-starter. The whole thing would explode into anarchy, with the population centers imploding within weeks, because of the impossibility of meeting basic needs due to a systematic breakdown. Think Katrina...on steroids.
The Economic power - the ability to the Fed to disperse money - is fast becoming a hollow power, but for the ability of our Fed to either BORROW OR PRINT. Both have imminent LIMITS; of the which are fast approaching. Thanks to exponentially-increasing government spending. Bottom line there...they've shot their wad.
If there is a continuation of Federal overreach which cuts at the very heart of the values and principles which have heretofore united our citizenry in agreement (consent) to a particular Law and governance...if policy like ObamaCare and people losing their care, their homes, their jobs, WHAT their children are taught in schools and churches, and ultimately their loved ones in a systematic collapse that many will and do BELIEVE that was strategically engineered (Cloward-Piven) as a means of "fundamentally changing this nation"....you can damn well book it the folk in the Red States will tell (what is left) of the Urban centers...to take a hike.
