Where is your concern for the victims?

genesis 9:6
"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.
"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.

My disdain for the death penalty does not lessen my concern for the victims or their families. The two are not mutually exclusive. Do not be fooled into believing the death penalty brings some sort of magical closure or healing for the family of the victims. It only exacerbates wounds and creates a new set of victims - including the tax payer.

I do not find the death penalty at all compatible with the teachings of Jesus. One of the most uncomfortable things to me about the death penalty is that the majority of its support comes from the "Bible Belt." It simply doesn't hold up against New Testament theology, if we're going to take the Biblical route in discussing it.

Ya, it does. They can go to sleep knowing the person that murdered their loved ones is fricking dead.

Strikingly inaccurate, as a matter of fact.
quote:
A 2007 study by criminologist Scott Vollum, now at the University of Minnesota, examined media interviews with family or friends of murder victims, conducted around the time the murderer was being executed.
Vollum found that the victims' loved ones reported experiencing feelings of peace or relief in only 17% of the more than 150 cases in which they made public statements; they reported feeling a sense of closure in only 2.5% of those cases. By contrast, in 20% of cases, they explicitly said the execution did not bring them healing or closure.

You don't understand how healing works do you?
Wait...don't answer that. Your quote proves you don't.
I'm sure those baws getting the chair were just misunderstood.
ETA: To be clear, your quote is a fricking joke. HERP A DERP LETS INTERVIEW THE FAMILY THE DAY THE SHITBAG IS FRIED IF THEY HAVE CLOSURE

frick off. We've got a liberal dipshit governor in La whose parole board is setting free a murderer who may actually be a serial killer after only 17 years in prison. Had he been executed, the citizens of this state would not have to be concerned that that piece of shite is returning to society.

Actions have consequences. As long as this country ok's legally putting a person to death for killing somebody my advice would be done be a piece of crap who rapes a woman and clubs her to death.

Do you have any New Testament verses for your post?
I don't oppose the death penalty, but I don't think you can compare Genesis to what has happened after Christ.

Your entire state is fricked, apparently, because there was also a guy who was just exonerated (this month) from a wrongful conviction and death sentence in 2012 because the DA was a crooked frick.
That's the problem with the death penalty. Sure, you can fry a bunch of bad guys. But what happens when an innocent person dies because of gross incompetence? How many innocent lives lost at the hand of the state is the death penalty worth? There have been over 150 cases in which people who were sentenced to die later had their convictions overturned. Absurd.

Okay. How about this quote:
quote:
Bearing out the concerns of Bill and Denise Richard, many of these friends and family members cited lengthy appeals processes as a barrier to their recovery. "You're trying to move on with your life," said one of them, "but you keep being dragged back into it."
The appeals process for capital punishment cases not only costs the tax payer more money than life sentences without parole, but it also prevents the families from being able to move on.

Yea let's try and keep religion out of it.
I think the US should set the example for the world.

Just for clarity, are you one of the "the state doesn't have a right to take a life" libertarians or are you one of the "the state can't take a life unless it meets my particular criteria to do so" proggies?
I mean I want to make sure I have you categorized correctly.
