A young Saudi woman sparked a sensation online over the weekend by posting a video of herself in a miniskirt and crop top walking around in public, with some Saudis calling for her arrest and others rushing to her defence.

State-linked news websites reported on Monday that officials in the deeply conservative Muslim country are looking into taking possible action against the woman, who violated the kingdom's rules of dress. Women in Saudi Arabia must wear long, loose robes known as abayas in public. Most also cover their hair and face with a black veil, though exceptions are made for visiting dignitaries.

The video, first shared on Snapchat, shows her walking around an empty historic fort in Ushaiager, a village north of the capital, Riyadh, in the desert region of Najd, where many of Saudi Arabia's most conservative tribes and families are from.

The Saudi Okaz news website reported that officials in Ushaiager called on the region's governor and police to take actions against the woman in response to the video, without elaborating further. Saudi news website Sabq reported that the kingdom's morality police had corresponded with other agencies to investigate further after the video was brought to their attention.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Police in Saudi Arabia have arrested a young woman who wore a miniskirt in public and posted the video online, sparking backlash from people who say she flagrantly violated the kingdom's conservative Islamic dress code. The woman, whose name was not given, was detained by police in the capital, Riyadh, for wearing "immodest clothes" that contradicted the country's conservative Islamic dress code, state media reported Tuesday. Police referred her case to the public prosecutor, according to the official Twitter account of state-run TV channel al-Ekhbariya. The young Saudi woman drew attention over the weekend when she shared on Snapchat a video of herself walking in a historic village north of the capital wearing a miniskirt and crop top, and showing her hair. In the now-viral video, the woman is filmed walking around the desert region of Najd, where many of Saudi Arabia's most conservative tribes and families are from. CBS News has not confirmed the authenticity of the following video clip -- which has been posted on Twitter -- but it appears to show the woman in a miniskirt and black crop top as many have described:

We have the best Arab allies don't we folks

And liberals were complaining about Paul Ryan enforcing a sleeveless dress code last week where they faced no legal consequences for violating the rule.

Yeah,I dated a half Egyptian girl for about a year. Probably the freakiest, most beautiful girl I've had the pleasure of being with. She had a Pocahontas outfit she'd put on for me and braid her hair. Great times..
