Saudi arrested with pressure cooker at Detroit airport

A Saudi man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport with a pressure cooker, less than a month after a bomb using one of the kitchen devices was used to kill three and injure hundreds.

Hussain Al Kwawahir was charged in federal court with using an altered passport and lying to a Customs and Border Protection Agent about the pressure cooker, according to The Detroit News. Al Kwawahir arrived Saturday from Saudi Arabia, via Amsterdam, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in federal court. He told investigators he was here to see a nephew who attends the University of Toledo.

Customs officials noticed a page missing from his passport, then found the pressure cooker during an examination of his baggage, according to authorities. Al Kwawahir said he brought the pressure cooker for his nephew because the devices are not sold in the United States, according to the complaint.

He later changed his story, saying his nephew had bought a pressure cooker in the U.S. but it was broken.

Saudis love us so much they bring pressure cookers as gifts

Seems pretty unlikely to pan out as a terrorist.

Perhaps not, but how to explain the bogus passport? Pressure cookers probably aren't the best items to import at the moment

Either these terrorists are getting dumber by the minute or they just aren't trying hard enough.

They are dumb...even the Tsarnaev's, though they pulled it off, are idiots...but even idiots can get lucky. This particular clown may or may not be a terrorist. Having a pressure cooker (and nothing more?) in your possession is evidence of nothing. The visa issues are something, but what?

Honestly, someone that stupid should have just been allowed to go visit his nephew.

Odds are 100,000-to-1 the SOBs would have blown themselves to smithereens in their own kitchen.

Could have saved us the trouble of a trial.

I saw an article about a Saudi student being surrounded by police for walking and carrying a pressure cooker. One filled with a rice dish he was taking to a friends house. He was told he should be more careful.

Going out on a limb here, but perhaps what he meant was he was bringing his nephew a quality pressure cooker like they use at home, instead of the cheap Chinese crap we mainline like heroin here in the U.S.?
