quote:

In law school, the arguments arose from what Disraeli called "falling into a deep groove of illogic and being helpless to allow reason to pull you out." If Moore's analysis of a case was tantamount to thinking 1 + 1 = 3, and his classmates reasoned otherwise, there was no backing down by Moore. The class was willing to fight to the death against illogic that no legal mind but one in America would espouse.
Moore never won one argument, and the debates got ugly and personal. The result: gone was the fulfillment a teacher hopes for in the still peace of logic and learning. I had no choice but to abandon the Socratic method of class participation in favor of the lecture mode because of one student: Roy Moore.

I thought this was interesting, but not surprising at all.

Honestly sounds like that individual, and you, have something personal against Moore.

eta: thought that was interesting, but not surprising.

While he makes important points, politically that was not very smart.

If anything that will fire up Roy's base even more.

To the average Roy Moore voter, him sticking it to the liberal academic elite will be seen as a badge of honor.

While Luther said Trump no less than 1000 times, Moore couldn’t make a point in the debate last night without reading from a stack of notes he brought to the podium. Oddly enough, none of those notes mentioned an actual plan or agenda outside of bringing God back to America.

But that loon is defiant so I guess that’s all that counts to some.

I harbor no ill will toward the man, but he is universally reviled by his law school classmates, the soldiers who served with and beneath him, and the supreme court justices who shared the bench with him.

Do you honestly believe a person like that would ever receive a committee appointment? Or could ever sponsor legislation that could even make it to a floor vote?

I won't be too surprised to see Doug Jones in the Senate if Moore wins the primary.

I doubt Roy's base is enough to get him elected. I'd probably sit at home Tuesday if it wasn't for trying to stop Doug Jones and Luther Strange.

I love how these professors remember every student they have ever taught.

I have no dog in this fight at all, but come on.

I highly doubt any of this went down.

Anyone notice anything about Roy Moore’s bus?

Doug Jones noticed it.

Tuesday or the General?

I think Roy's base will be enough on Tuesday. They are motivated. Luther's voters?

For the general, I agree, and took 10 to 1 odds on Jones to win.

Both Tuesdays will be a challenge to drag me to the polls.

This coming Tuesday has me at a loss that these two men are our choices.

December will be just to keep an R in that seat.

I don’t but I follow other Alabama Political reporters.

For both of our sakes, let’s just hope Jim Ziegler doesn’t get elected governor.

You underestimate the lasting impression Mr. Moore seems to leave on everyone he's ever encountered professionally.

quote:

“Homosexual conduct should be illegal, yes,” Moore said. “It is immoral, it is defined by the law as detestable, it was against the law in most states until the Supreme Court … said that it wasn’t.” In a 2003 landmark decision, Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court declared state laws banning sodomy were unconstitutional. Later in the interview, when Press asks about why the government should ban private activity between two consenting adults, Moore said, "Just because it's done behind closed doors, it can still be prohibited by state law. Do you know that bestiality, the relationship between man and beast is prohibited in every state?" "Did I ask you about having sex with a cow? ... Or a horse, or a dog?" Press responded. "It's the same thing," Moore replied.

Hard for people NOT to remember him, I'd say.
