O rly? You looked at gold prices lately?

I'm just saying if it looks anything like his, it's made out of Pyrite. That ring looks like a piece of shite. Maybe yours is higher quality, but that doesn't look like $1400 to me.

There is an antique finish like his and then a regular gold finish

To be fair, class rings are a rip off no matter what they look like. They are all cheaply made and over-priced.

Which is why I never even considered buying one, nor did any of my friends who didn't go to junior college.

That's some BS right there. It really has nothing to do with the opponent being gay. Something as insignificant as that shouldn't overturn an actual vote.
Not a huge Perry fan, but he has a right to weigh in on his alma mater. Too bad the lazy narrative will be spun that he's somehow upset that a gay guy won.

I bet you also had a portrait of your ring done?

quote:You're one of my favorite posters, but you need to raise up. I don't think Ole Miss does class rings. Silly bow ties and $210 seersucker suits are your thing. Not class rings. They are a tradition at a lot of schools. Not one worthy of standalone pictures, but still important. I've taken mine off once in 13 years--for a CT scan.

I was talking more about high school in that specific scenario on class rings being rip offs.
And as far as I'm aware, no one has even tried to sell them to Ole Miss.

He did more than buy a hat and t-shirt at Walmart. He actually graduated from aTm.

I'm frankly surprised its current year and we don't have a transracial ferretkin twink as our mascot.
If the rest of you fricks don't slow down, you're going to pass us on the gay train.

Yeah sorry, there are class rings and there are Class Rings. Senior Military colleges all are pretty traditional on this. Aggie rings are 10-14K gold and some people tend to put a diamond in them. LSU has some great traditions, but rings are not particularly important.
They do a gun metal one for the religions who can't wear gold for whatever reason.

Further proof... No one is more proud of a class ring than aggies.

I understand that aTm takes special pride in their rings. But the are overpriced from a jewelry standpoint. My hs graduation ring was gold and has diamonds - because I was an idiot - and the value is significantly less than what I paid for it. Part of that price is the value of having an Aggie ring but I wouldn't go adding it to my homeowners policy, that's all.
Posted on 3/23/17 at 10:53 pm to LSUGrrrl
Any jewelry is going to be significantly overpriced to the actual value. I learned that after trying to return/resell an engagement ring.
Anyone who thinks they're getting some kind of actual value in jewelry is naive. Jewelry isn't worth 50% of what it gets sold for at retail. Relatively, class rings are intrinsically as valuable as any other hunk of gold and jewels.

Every piece of jewelry I own has been appraised and insured at or above my cost. Several have had insurance adjustments to increase coverage. Part of that is very smart buying - never buy a pre-set diamond unless its from an extremely prestigious jeweler - and part of that is the actual value of the item.
I could sell most of my pieces for very close to what we paid or above to an actual buyer. No store is going to pay you close to what you paid. But none of this is the point.
Your ring has value for the price of the gold and the quality of whatever gems you may have in it but its not $1400 worth of value. You couldn't sekk your ring to a store or a buyer for anywhere near the $1400 retail price you paid because a large portion of that price was emotional investment. That's what the previous posted was saying and what I was agreeing with.
But you cannot compare actual value of a class ring to the actual value of metals and gems. The biggest mistake people make in any jewelry purchase is placing too much on the emotional value (part being how it looks, trends, styles, memories, etc) and not enough on the actual value of the actual asset.
