Because the Democrats wanted to try to tie the Trump campaign to it.

So is the idea that they blocked it because revealing it then would show that it wasn't related to Trump but just Russia being Russia? So they waited to make it look like Trump was in on it, or at least that they were doing it to help Trump?

They had to wait to see if they were going to implicate Trump or Cruz.

there is no reasoning to this, other than what everyone in here are presuming. please keep in mind that there was a stage that HRC denied any foreigners hacking;and she was never vulnerable overseas using her granny iphone with cheap useless virus protection.
also remember that HRC dissed Putin and said he rigged HIS election and cry babied about it to the UN and the world.
so Obama rigged the release against Trump. there is no one in Trumps cabinet with any more ties to Russia lobbying than WJC, Podestas and most of DC.

I thought the same thing. but this isn't the first time I have heard that Obama held back on the Russian story. It was in these boards and possibly a thread...
