Remember when the Left & the Media mocked Reagan for proposing a missile defense system?

Or maybe you read about it if you are younger.
Sure seems like a prophetic plan given latest developments with that fat bag in North Korea.

quote:
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) was a proposed missile defense system intended to protect the United States from attack by ballistic strategic nuclear weapons (intercontinental ballistic missiles and submarine-launched ballistic missiles). The system, which was to combine ground-based units and orbital deployment platforms, was first publicly announced by President Ronald Reagan on March 23, 1983.[1] The initiative focused on strategic defense rather than the prior strategic offense doctrine of mutual assured destruction (MAD). The Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) was set up in 1984 within the United States Department of Defense to oversee the Strategic Defense Initiative.
Reagan was a vocal critic of MAD doctrine. SDI was an important part of his defense policy intended to end MAD as a nuclear deterrence strategy, as well as a strategic initiative to neutralize the military component of the Soviet Union's nuclear defenses.[2]
The ambitious initiative was criticized for allegedly threatening to destabilize the MAD-approach and to possibly re-ignite "an offensive arms race".[3] SDI was nicknamed largely in the mainstream media as "Star Wars", after the popular 1977 film by George Lucas. In 1987, the American Physical Society concluded that a global shield such as "Star Wars" was extremely ambitious and with existing technology not directly feasible for operational status, and that about ten more years of research was needed to learn about such a comprehensive and complex system to set up and make it fully operational.[4]

That is the point of the thread dumbass
Same people who want to spend trillions because they think they can control the weather thought this was just too advanced to do so now we are more vulnerable than we should be
All because our shitass left didn't want to offend their ideological soulmates

I remember it very well. I also recall that it wasn't many years after that the media had to eat shite on it, because of the Scud Busters during the 1991 Gulf War that saved (ironically) CNN reporters hunkered down in the Middle East by knocking Iraqi missiles out of the sky.
At that point the media thought it was the neatest thing since sliced bread. Typical.

This is a great thread and the key to it for the younger generation is to learn from it. The left has been lying to the American public for decades. Uninterrupted. When the shite hits the fan, the very ones crying for someone to save them will be the leftist. And they will be crying and saying the opposite side betrayed them and didn't provide protection. There is only one way for peace. You must remain strong and vigilant for as long as we are a nation. Not many people go and pick a fight with Mike Tyson. Sounds holy and simplistic but it's effective. Sixty years have gone by without Japan and Germany rearing their heads because our grandfathers kicked their asses, and bad. Proof is in the pudding kids. Forget it at your peril

No - just the left and media. It was a brilliant idea - a cornerstone in the defeat of the USSR. They realized they could never keep up with us.
'Murica. frick yeah.

I might do it, even though I know I would get creamed. That pathetic excuse for a human really burns me up when I think of his treatment of Desiree Washington and Robin Givens and so many other women, and the fact he supported Trump reinforces his status as scum.

And the left still doesn't get the point, its past ramnifications or its current applicability. Typical.

I remember it clearly. The left was up in arms about it. It was almost as if they were on the Soviet's side.
Not much has changed in the years since.

Listen, I'm not sure what communist jackass you rod in here on, but it got the Star Wars nickname only after Ted Kennedy complained about "That cowboy and his reckless Star Wars Scheme" on the Senate floor.
If that's not mocking then I'm not sure what is.

Missile defense would be a nice to have but given the priorities we face it is just another Military Industrial Complex boondoggle.

There's that " embarrassing Cowboy yokel " narrative I referenced earlier that the Progressive Media Culture peddles so furiously. The more they ridiculed him, the more correct you knew he was . Sounds familiar...

You are an idiot. We didn't have the technology to go to the moon when JFK stated that as a goal, but it did happen.

But we did know that a big enough rocket would get us there.
Missile defense flaunts what Sun Tzu said - "he who defends all defends nothing."

I do remember his vice president's son shitting the bed... 30 months after invading iraq, nk is testing nukes. After repeated incompetence, even stupid ideas start sounding good.
