This is the most upvoted comment in this thread

This is all apart of Bannon's plan for state controlled news. Have Trump attempt to discredit America's most trusted news sources. Then have him give full interviews to Breitbart and others as an attempt to legitimize them.

You can replace CNN with NYT for that image or any MSM source.

OK, for the sake of argument, let's say they are correct. What makes Breitbart any different than the NYT? Why is it OK for some publications to be openly liberal, but Breitbart is now somehow fake news?

I think it is great what Trump is doing. He's not so much bypassing THE media. He is bypassing the mainstream media.

He releases a video to Youtube. Like it or not, Youtube is media. It's new media. It's not mainstream media, but it's where a large portion of the population gets its news and entertainment.

Bannon did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. (He's a former film producer and has contacts there). Trump is doing an interview with TMZ. These are outlets they feel they can trust to release exactly what they are saying without editing or editorializing their message.

Who gets to say who is legitimate media and who isn't? If they want to use any common metric, like ratings, profits and sales, then I think most MSM would be behind TMZ, National Enquirer, etc.

Just because you don't agree with everything various news media outlets publish doesn't make them state controlled.

A President elect holding behind closed doors off the record meetings with various news outlets reeks of suspicion.

I think the NYT is doing enough to discredit themselves without Trump's direct assistance.

These are outlets that aren't going to ask the hard, educated questions. We all know Trump doesn't want to face those.

Who are you to judge who is legit media and who isn't?

I have a feeling you consider Huffington Post as legit and Breitbart as not legit.

You didn't pay attention the last eight years, did you?

Team Obama did a lot of the same stuff both directly and indirectly thanks to the infestuous nature of the press and the Dems.

If something truly untoward happened or was happening, what do you foresee would keep such outlets from reporting about the "behind closed doors off the record meetings"?

Do you consider yourself someone able to judge what is legit media? Just let me know what your specialized credentials are so I can be enlightened.

I'm fine with many of the things Trump is doing, although I could do without the name-calling.

The part I find most interesting is how this board has largely done a 180 on what is and is not acceptable from the president. When Obama was embracing social media, daytime and nighttime talk shows, etc., he was making a mockery of the office. Now we celebrate someone reaching out to the people directly.

Coordinating with the party that is in control does.

No, I don't. And I also don't think any media outlet has a right to a seat at the table. The New York Times has no more rights than the Baton Rouge Advocate. If Trump wanted to revoke the media pass of the NYT and give it to The Advocate, what could be done? Nothing.

If I were Trump I would continue to embrace new media and underserved media and do it with a sense of diversity of thought. I would make sure Midwestern and southern media was represented, taking up some of the slots of the elite eastern media.
