re: Rand Paul to Meet Evangelicals, Black and Latino Leaders
Rand needs to continue to meet with Black and Latino groups. At least once every 2 months and leading up to the primaries at least every month. The minority outreach is vital.

Let's say he makes it to the general election, he may only get 10% of the black vote and 30% of the Latino vote however he will gain a lot of respect from the white guilt crowd and gain some of their votes. And if he runs against Hillary, Rand will compete well against her for the youth vote. This early minority outreach with a sustained effort going forward could put him over the top.

If Rand can get at least 12-15% of the black vote, he will be president. The magic number for Latinos is 42-45% IMO.

If his "brand" is that he isn't the typical Republican, he can get some people to listen. And everyone has something to gain from smaller government, so once you have a receptive, open minded audience you just have to point out how they would be better off with libertarian policies.

Needs to meet with his dad. If he can bring his dad to his senses, that would be a real accomplishment.

Oof. I don't see it that way. If Rand get 42-45% in the general election he will win in a landslide going away. I think GWB received 40% of the Latino vote and won. I think Rand could win with 37-38% of the Latino vote.

On kind of a separate note, if the Republicans were like the Democrats they would be exploiting the crap out of this GZ/TM circus. This is a perfect opportunity to pander to the Latinos. IDK know how you could do it but, I do know if the Democrats were in the same position that the Republicans are in now they would be taking advantage of this circus to gain Latino support.

This is assuming that the GOP establishment isn't able to get to him and smear his name.

You know that thug piece of shite Karl Rove is going to be gunning for him hard trying to find as much dirt as possible.

Then the magic number should be 40%

You can't trust on the outreach to blacks so you have to shore up the Latinos as much as possible.

I would think Rand's staff is trying to find a way to use this but the vehicle is just not there.

Rand has done a decent job of not letting others define him. His reaching out to groups early will be helpful in this area. He just needs to continue defining himself & rejecting the other narrative.

I think he's smart and capable enough to do it. If he can do a 13 hour filibuster without hanging himself, he'll be alright. What's even more impressive is that he managed to keep it on the topic of drones for the most part during the filibuster.

Yes. I think we discussed this that day. I hope he has a boom response to the civil rights narrative that's heading his way. He knows its coming & needs to be prepared with a short boom worthy sound bite that will carry we'll in the media.

Agreed.

But, this will only work as long he is not currently associating himself with anybody the media could spin as racist and wants to repeal the civil rights act. I hate the media but they control the narrative for the most part and you can't fight against that.

Please inform me in what aspect you are referencing senses. His type are the only left with senses that aren't dulled by mindless drivel and filled with logical fallacies.

If Romney got 70% of the Latino vote, he still would have lost. Think about that.
quote:

In 2012, President Obama famously won 71% of the Hispanic vote to Mitt Romney’s 27%. If all other factors remained the same, how large a percentage of the Hispanic vote would Romney have had to win to capture the White House?

What if Romney had won 44% of the Hispanic vote, the high-water mark for Republicans achieved by George W. Bush in 2004? As it turns out, if Romney had hit that Bush mark, he still would have lost, with 240 electoral votes to 298 for Obama.

But what if Romney had been able to make history and attract 50% of Hispanic voters? What then? He still would have been beaten, 283 electoral votes to 255.

What if Romney had been able to do something absolutely astonishing for a Republican and win 60% of the Hispanic vote? He would have lost by the same margin, 283 electoral votes to 255.

But what if Romney had been able to reach a mind-blowing 70% of the Hispanic vote? Surely that would have meant victory, right? No, it wouldn’t. Romney still would have lost, although by the narrowest of electoral margins, 270 to 268. (Under that scenario, Romney would have won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College.)

According to the Times’ calculator, Romney would have had to win 73% of the Hispanic vote to prevail in 2012. Which suggests that Romney, and Republicans, had bigger problems than Hispanic voters.
LINK

Rand would obviously do better with some constituencies than Romney but also likely worse with others. Saying what percentage of the latino vote he would need at this moment is a fool's errand, IMO.
