He loses credibility with me because he is a rabid Serb apologist- this is a leftover effect of being raised by Comintern-indoctrinated parents - Russia is always better than the U.S. - Serbia is an extension of Russia and the Albanians are pro-U.S.

And I was there (Kosovo), so I know what I'm talking about.

ETA: But he is a really smart guy...

Scahill is an interesting guy. I have read his book on Blackwater. Having knowledge about the situation that is derived from more than his book, it is amazing how much information he hides from the reader that is pertinent to a conclusion.

Moreover, he devotes an entire chapter in that book to an anti-Christian rant about the owners and supporters of PMCs. Really bizarre and speculative.

That said, of the left leaning political commentators, he is one of the very few that has called out the current administration on abuses of power - and he has done this consistently. I respect him in not being as big of a relativist as most.

Private Military Contractors like Blackwater, Triple Canopy, etc.

Yes, he is definitely worth watching.

I've seen Scahill actively promote people who praise and call for terrorist attacks in the continental US. frick Scahill and his anti-American friends.

That would not overly surprise me. In his Blackwater book, he speaks of the people of Fallujah as though they were innocent, non-violent people that were prompted to extreme acts of barbarianism by the US Military and private military contractors.

The fact of the matter is the populous of that city has been barbaric for 2000 years.

Was he praising them for their call for terrorist attacks, or was he praising them for others things they had done? There are people who I consider scum in some areas of the lives, but who've done admirable things in other areas.

Even if that were true, what had they done to the U.S. to justify our war against them? After all, not only were none of the 9/11 hijackers from Fallujah, none were from Iraq.

I'm not even going to try to guess Scahill's true motivation. He has been actively promoting someone who calls for terrorist attacks on US soil. The same guy praised the Boston bombers. And Scahill continues to flack for the guy. Greenwald too. frick all those guys.

He's a dedicated Marxist - and loyal to the old Soviet regime - has he criticized Putin in Ukraine at all?

He he criticized Cuba? China?

That's all you need to know. I like his consistent stance on the Obama, but other than that - just another nutty lefty (albeit a smart and somewhat thoughtful one.)

That might explain his proximity to the Katrina vanden Heuvel/Stephen F. Cohen set. The more I learn about these people, the less I like. A den of Putin apologists.

I predict that Rand will bring the house down just like his Dad did when he went on Real Time. You have to give him credit for political savvy:

1) He brought the house down at Berkeley, which prompted former Clinton Labor Secretary and Berkeley professor Robert Reich to say, "There are not too many people who can get a standing ovation at CPAC and a standing ovation at Berkeley".
2) He got applause for his speech at the National Urban League which was praised by Marc Morial.
3) He regularly gets praise from hosts and commentators on both FOX and MSNBC, including Sean Hannity and Al Sharpton.
4) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has endorsed him for President.
5) Eric Holder has applauded him for his bipartisanship.
6) He somehow managed to ingratiate himself with anti-government protestors at Cliven Bundy's ranch and in Ferguson, MO.

It may not be possible to be all things to all people, but Rand is certainly trying. If he can continue to walk this tightrope for the next couple of years, it might land him in the White House.

Would you mind providing links so I can see what you're referring to as "praise" and "promotion" of terrorist attacks against the U.S.? Also, what's your beef with Greenwlad?

In an unexpected turn, I agree with everything in your post, have an upvote my crazy, misguided, but spot on for this issue, friend.

It seems that Paul has perplexed both Republicans and Democrats with his tightrope act.

quote:

It’s something of a miracle that Keith Richards is still around. The notoriously hard-living guitarist for the legendary Rolling Stones has spent decades spitting in the face of medical science. Some swear he’s found a way to defy death.

And so it is that we confront the equally puzzling case of Rand Paul, who has made a mockery of political science with one career resurrection after another since exploding onto the scene in 2010.

Aqua Buddha? Please. Plagiarism? You gotta do better than that. Racially controversial comments, writings or staff? You’d think so, but no.

Now, with a likely Paul presidential run mere months away, Democrats and Republicans are asking the same question and debating among themselves what will be the political silver bullet that finally brings him down.
