Well the claim here is that affirmative action is rampantly leading to more qualified white candidates being passed over. How would this be occurring if no one talks about it during hiring procedures?
anecdotal evidence for the win!
You actually believe that large companies would just blissfully hire all white people and Asians if those were the best candidates.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Everyone complaining about affirmative action is using even less than anecdotal evidence. They are just assuming they were passed over due to aa with zero proof.

As I understand AA Policy...isn't that the desired end? And if I were the guy doing the hiring for a Company...they would not have to "talk" to me about what would be a very problematic and potentially costly subject, given Federal Civil Rights Policy. If I didn't know what all the angles were, it would mean that I was unqualified to do the hiring.
I think AA has been mostly good, especially in it's effect to raise the economic status of Blacks, and alleviate some legit feeling for redress of former injustice. Government Bureaucracy especially. But given the shrinking economy (for various reasons), competition becomes more of an issue...and fairness in competition even more so.
Different standards are problematic any way we cut it. Especially re Black folk who still have the 'slavery' payback albatross hanging around their neck.
It's politics. When the Government becomes the arbiter for who gets what and why.... . The 'hogs' at the trough up in DC are far more guilty that some poor Black guy who just don't understand 'the big picture', and takes that check. I know some...and I don't begrudge it. But I believe I'm going to live forever, and it's good for my character to feel what other people have in past injustices....so.... .
Later.

This line perfectly summarizes how I feel about AA in a nutshell and what I try to get conservatives to see. I may use this line.

Well, what about your family values. Those seem to be fricked.

Why should he? You never back any of your drivel with facts, and when people do provide facts, you change the subject.
Yet you provide no facts for your assertion. I love irony

Probably. I'm going to blame the boomers for that though. I don't know what they did or why.. but somehow they are to blame.

There is a very easy way to prove the issue. Ban race on all college admission applications. The Ivy League colleges would have less than 1% black students.

I always find it funny that the answer to more government is more government

This is a WONDERFUL idea. Deserves its own thread. It really would be a practical solution (the military does it for certain JROTC scholarships if I remember correctly)
And the Ivy Leagues would probably get 30% + Asian/ Middle Eastern students.

"It could be argued (just playing devil's advocate) that the removal of AA would not directly improve Black unemployment"
I suspect it would not result in much change at all in the Black UE rate. Unlike decades ago, anti-black bias is rarer (though still extant) and affirmative action only applies in certain areas anyway (government contracting, some government jobs, etc.). Although I don't think affirmative action is a good idea for the country long term - potentially sowing seeds of discord - it is not an issue I care deeply about because I believe it does relatively little harm.

AA doesn't just give unqualified blacks spots at jobs. It makes it extremely difficult to get rid of them when they frick up. Those jobs have quotas. You can't fire them without getting another black. They know they can't get fired so the have no motivation to perform.
This is a big problem at hospitals in Shreveport-Bossier. It was also graphic in the case of ULL's first head football coach. He had the worst record in the school's history (something like 80% losses).
But he sued for racial discrimination. The case went on for years before they settled.
