Who here is totally opposed to immigration legal or not? I casually stated that I don't mind legal immigration on Twitter and I'm still getting roasted. I've been accused of wanting to flood the country with foreigners and genocide. Not to mention all of the names I've been called in the last hour. These are what I thought were fellow conservatives. I was somewhat surprised at their reaction. Who else here is totally opposed to immigration?

Not me. We do need legal immigration and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. However, the unfettered immagration with daisy chain rules would drain the country dry. As it is right now if we took all the money we spend on illegal immigrants annually we could totally fund college educations for every Citizen and have ~$50B left over. Why liberals can’t see how damaging that is is beyond me.

I'm completely opposed to legal immigration. Democrats kill us with illegal immigration while Republicans kill us with legal immigration. Legal immigrants still overwhelming vote democratic and will be harmful to us in the long run. I don't worship the GDP and know there's much more important things.

Not opposed to legal immigration, but there should be limits in place.

I'm all for legal immigration. But you have to have job skills, speak English and have no criminal background. Every country should not have equal access. Preference should be given to Scandinavian women in their early 20s.

Immigration should be based on filling job needs.

The current system is a drain on our social welfare system and tax payers.

Also the immigrants should have some idea of a basic plan for their American life: employee or employer? general area of residence?

Would probably be a good idea, as in the past, to have a temporary freeze until we can straighten out the current mess. Give ICE a decade to round up and deport the current crop.

I could get behind this.

We take in more legal immigrants the the next 4 nations combined.

We have more illegals cross our borders each year than 6 of the top 10 nations take legals.

We should only take those that bring a benefit to our country for a while.

This should be the case permanently.

Legal immigration has two purposes, improve our nation and protect the lives of our friends who live in enemy nations.

Yes I support legal immigrants as defined.

With the exception of the second half of the 20th century, we have been a nation that has attracted the best and brightest from other nations, legally. The insult of illegal aliens coming into our country and staying is a mark of a declining nation.

Unless Trump follows through with his draconian actions to stop illegal aliens from coming into the US, and deporting those that are caught here illegally, there will be an even bigger flood coming over our borders.

We need a continuous legal influx of bright and healthy immigrants. That's what has made this country strong. Illegal aliens have weakened our republic. Get them out!

Not necessarily.

You have to think about people's incomes.

Labor operates under the same market forces as other goods/services.

If the labor supply increases, what happens to the price (wage) of labor? It falls.

So, while a sign of a strong nation may be attracting bright immigration, it's also a sign of a strong nation when its workers earn good incomes.

The operative word in your statement is "earn." The worst failure of our society to date has been to allow government-backed unions to hold hostage major corporations such as auto companies.

As a result, manufacturing has fled this country like a crowd of people running from a source of gunfire (sorry, but mass shootings are becoming an ordinary expectation in the US). They're fleeing the high cost of labor.

Competition from hard-working legal immigrants can mitigate the ridiculous status quo we're presently suffering because of unreasonable union demands on companies. Then, if government will drop its involvement in worker/company labor negotiations, America can once again compete on the world manufacturing stage.

I have no problem with immigrants. The over whelming majority of Americans are descendants of immigrants. I do have a major problem with just leaving the door unlocked and letting whoever wants to come in, come right in. We have laws in place for a reason. Follow the law or face the consequences. But accountability and responsibility are concepts that are lost on the left.

I also believe we should help Mexico become a place worth living in. If the countries to the south of us weren't absolutely miserable places to live, we wouldn't have millions of people trying to get in every year, legally or otherwise. We can't support the entire world's population.
