yeah and democrats scrapped it when republicans put in a provision that they could never be citizens and vote...that was for total amnesty.

It was temporary and undone; it wasn't wrong. I'll argue the minor difference on that. If it brings about permanence in the law for these people, then that is ultimately what matters to me.
Somehow, I don't think the "you have to go back" crowd will be pleased with that outcome if it comes to pass, but I've been wrong before.
