Come on, guys. I am cynical about it, too, but the video was pretty clear about the difference.
Or are you just going SJW and working from assumptions?

Retail/food service jobs are the next to be mass automated after manufacturing. In a few decades most Americans may not have jobs.

My cousin has been doing that for years
She has been caught a few times, lol.

Prepare for further welfare recipients. Amazon Go just automated cashier jobs.
Laugh at cashiers now, but automation will come for your job one day

You can go to any grocery store, pick stuff off the shelves and just walk out the door without scanning or paying a person or machine like you can with Amazon Go now?
Didn't know that?

Between robotics and AI probably half the jobs in our economy are going to go the same way as the cashiers.
And that's when we're going to have some real hard questions that should have been answered, ohhhhh.... about now. Because if we don't start accepting what's happening, we're going to have an untenable situation with the poors saying frick it and just taking everything the other half has at gun point.
The answer to this one is going to have to include a basic income for life or something that is basically the equivalent because it's going to be very difficult to train most of these people to be anything that's worthwhile in that economy.
I've been a hardcore fiscal conservative my whole life but when you start reading about what's happening now in these fields you realize that we're now going through a transformation not unlike the invention of the printing press. Only much more impactful and it's going to unfold much faster. Society is about to change. And that change is going to be very painful.

Amazon is showing cashiers and cashier machines will be a thing of the past.
You just grab shite off the supermarket shelves and it deducts from your account...put the item back on the shelf and it credits your account...walk in, walk out. No lines, no machines, no cashiers.

Yup. Screw innovation and initiative. Just wait for your pellet.
Come on, man. I'm not one of these Ayn Rand types who pretend I can overcome any obstacle and be completely self-reliant, but you are basically arguing for people to just give up.

No I'm not. I'm just saying that we're about to get into a situation where your average, left side of the bell curve, uneducated, menial worker is going to be completely superfluous. They won't be able to find a job because a job that they are capable of doing is likely not going to exist.
The hope here is that this huge increase in productivity and efficiency will create enough of a surplus to be able to afford a solution. And the tech that's coming is going to create new types of low level employment. Things like virtual reality crowd source jobs. Create new ways to visualize data that some dipshit can pour over in augmented reality every day as part of a huge 'hive mind' where his part of it is more like a video game than a job, and you've probably got a good example of the economy handling this itself. But that's a big stretch once we get quantum computing.
At some point, we are no longer necessary. So what do you do with all the people?

I can, bc that's when paying taxes on Amazon starts...
For you anyway. I already pay taxes on all Internet purchases.
