Democrats have attacked the president every which way, but polling and focus groups show none of it's working.

Democrats tried attacking Donald Trump as unfit for the presidency. They’ve made the case that he’s ineffective, pointing to his failure to sign a single major piece of legislation into law after eight months in the job. They’ve argued that Trump is using the presidency to enrich himself and that his campaign was in cahoots with Russia.

None of it is working.

Data from a range of focus groups and internal polls in swing states paint a difficult picture for the Democratic Party heading into the 2018 midterms and 2020 presidential election. It suggests that Democrats are naive if they believe Trump’s historically low approval numbers mean a landslide is coming. The party is defending 10 Senate seats in states that Trump won and needs to flip 24 House seats to take control of that chamber.

The research, conducted by private firms and for Democratic campaign arms, is rarely made public but was described to POLITICO in interviews with a dozen top operatives who’ve been analyzing the results coming in.

“If that’s the attitude that’s driving the Democratic Party, we’re going to drive right into the ocean,” said Anson Kaye, a strategist at media firm GMMB who worked on the Obama and Clinton campaigns and is in conversations with potential clients for next year.

It's not that the president vis made of teflon but rather the assults upon him have no sticking power.

I think a large part of that is that he doesn't allow them to stick on him.

How does he do that?

1. He completely refutes them. Most other politicians will eventually acquiesce to the continual pressure to some extent, even if to just lessen the constant barrage from their detractors. He doesn't.

2. He doesn't allow media to be the arbiter of his responses. He has no problem with responding to detractors in either a press conference, a rally or Twitter. Being so vociferous on such a constant basis keeps his narrative from being distorted by an opposition media.

What he's doing is creating a bit of a blueprint for what politicians will have to do to be successful in the Social Media Age.

You're right. It was frustrating to watch Bush junior absorb hit after hit without response.

to throw their words back in their faces democrats did worse than get the car stuck in the ditch, they lost the car. So they can hire all of the rent a mobs they want people see right through them. Ryan and McConnell will be fired and we can get things done.

Rand Paul as majority leader Louie Gohmert as Speaker. Cruz to SCOTUS soon; for the ultimate melt.

It blows my mind that they still do this. They feign outrage over the smallest of things so much that, when it comes to a topic that is legit, people lump it in with CNN fact checking Russian dressing.

If someone tells you the world is going to end tomorrow, you tend to stop listening to them after a week.

While I think there are better candidates out there for SCOTUS, I won't deny that I would enjoy the hell out of the epic-level melt that would occur from the proggies.

Truth

I didn't agree with all things Bush at all, but it annoyed me to no end that he would stand quiet under assault. Same with Romney. If Romney showed a smidgen of fight vs Obama, he would have won.

One of the silliest right wing wet dreams to come around in awhile.

You know Ted Cruz would have to agree to serve. He wants no part of getting out of the limelight.

I don't know if Ted Cruz would accept a nomination to the Supreme Court or not but I don't believe your reasoning has merit.

One of nine is more appealing than being one of one hundred. That and a lifetime appointment means he could remain in the limelight to the day he dies.

One of nine with only a reactive positron of what gets in front of him. He respects the institution enough not to be a political animal if he were a Justice and he only gets 1 vote to grant cert on cases before him.

He wants to enact policy, and becoming a Justice would hamper that immensely

True but an arguement could be made that the judicial branch is more engaged in lawmaking and policy determination than the legislative branch these days.

It's difficult to underplay the social and political importance of the SCOTUS.

I'll tell you what... I'll suck my own dick and live stream it for y'all if Ted Cruz accepts an appointment to SCOTUS in the next decade.

That's called putting your money where your mouth is

As I said in my first post, I have no idea what Ted Cruz will do if offered the nomination but I will bookmark this post "just in case".

Not that I would want to see the act, mind you.

If Ted Cruz is motivated to remain on the national scene for decades to come and influence the direction of the country then the supreme court is his best option to achieve that goal.

ewwww Marilyn Manson LINK much? no way could you suck your own pecker or you wouldn't be getting married.

I think Cruz would take a SCOTUS bid in a NY minute. He would have the spotlight enough for SCOTUS pics when he ate his own booger.

Serious question: Is there something that bars SCOTUS justices from resigning and returning to business or politics? I'm pretty sure it's never been done, but I'd be concerned about Cruz resigning after 12 years or so and running for office again.

He definitely wants to be POTUS.
