So I was driving through an area that was quite affluent in the 60's & 70's...a once-thriving suburb with the #1 rated school district in the state of Texas.
Today, you can't even conduct business in English.

If you are talking about Houston, southwest Houston has street signs in Chinese.

No. But it's a problem for all those immigrants who live in that neighborhood because they won't amount to anything if they can't speak English. Hopefully their kids will though and all grow up to be astronauts or bankers or doctors or something.

The Asian community there has been slowly and steadily improving the area, building learning centers to teach/learn English, creating jobs, etc. It's not perfect, but overall they're benefitting society with a work ethic and discipline I admire and appreciate.

Let's hope the kids aren't illegals or children of illegals because then they shouldn't be able to go to public school and learn English, amirite?

George H.W. Bush and Kevin Costner used to live in Compton.

And it will be all English again.
Look at immigrant neighborhoods in New York in the early 1900s. Everything was in Italian. What is it now?
This too shall pass.

This is very different. I'm old enough to have spoken to many European immigrants, including my grandfather and my wife's grandfather (Denmark and Italy respectively). When I was in High School, many of my friends' grandparents spoke Czech or German.
Unlike all other immigrants, an enormous percentage of modern hispanic immigrants do not want to be Americans (in the context of United States). They proudly display "La Raza" everywhere and REFUSE to learn english or otherwise join the melting pot like everyone else did.
What I'm wondering is if anyone is seeing the Obamacare enrollment sign. This area is full of illegals, not 2nd generation who haven't learned english.
