Origin of "white nationalist" ?

The white supremacists changed their terminology to it after hearing the media refer to orgs like the Black Panthers as 'black nationalists'.

There have been books written on this.

It's not new. It refers to people who want a majority white country and to maintain a dominant white culture.

Like keeping Britain mostly British or France mostly French.

But the left has gotten liberal with the term and use it in instances where it really doesn't apply.

Neo-Nazis who got tired of being considered followers of Hitler. So they changed it to "white nationalist" meaning they aren't necessarily "national socialists" and don't necessarily agree with all of Hitler's views. They do agree with him about the race issue, though.

That's my best understanding of it.

Hispanics have always been white. Real Hispanics are from Spain, not Mexico. A more accurate term for Mexicans would be Chicano or Mestizo.

It actually started a long time ago based on racism. White people who looked down on black people wanted to have their country or community be run by whites only, as they viewed their race as superior to other races. This concept exists still today in the US and some other "white" countries. It's been recently used as a slander against those who don't like illegal immigration (because of brown people) or Islam (because more brown people) even though white nationalism isn't the reason for the opinions being held.
