Ohio State University acceptance graph

Somewhere in Toledo, Ohio there was a 3-year varsity letterman in both football and baseball who was a runner up for Homecoming king, and who made his high school's honor roll and scored a 26 on his ACT. He grew up a diehard Ohio State Buckeyes fan and dreamed of being the first in his family to attend college in Columbus. His name was Luke.
He was shocked when he walked down his gravel driveway on a cold winter morning last December to open his mailbox and see a rejection letter from the OSU admissions office. Somehow he would not be admitted into his dream school. He would not be in the Buckeye's class of 2019. The money that his grandfather had left him for college and that his parents had been saving for the past 15 years would instead go to his second choice - Bowling Green. He scratched his head and realized that he didn't even own a Bowling Green hat or t-shirt!
Now Luke would never know it, but in his place, the Ohio State University decided to give a full scholarship to Abdul Razak Ali Artan, who couldn't name a single member of the 2002 Buckeye's national championship team. Who couldn't recite a single line from the University's fight song. Who never skipped a junior high class (risking detention) to watch a Buckeye NCAA tournament game in the janitor's office on his dad's Sony Watchman TV, who had never made the 3-hour drive to take a moonlight walk across the beautiful campus and dream about the memories that he'd make there in just a few years' time, using next week's date money to refill his father's truck on the drive back home.

Our birth rate isn't high enough. We need Abdul to come here and work in corporate America.

You can go ahead and add the link so we can get the full story.

Diversity is great, isn't it? Perhaps if that homecoming letterman buttered roll was smart enough to change his name to Ahmed Mohammed Bin-DurkaDurka he would have received the letter of his dreams.

I made it up but it's undoubtedly true many times over

What's even more sad: lenders will fork over student loans for a kid who scored less than 20 on the ACT to attend Ohio State.

I'm going to give you an upvote just for the upcoming 10+ pages of people bitching about this "injustice" without reading your follow up.

This thread looks like horseshite and I'm completely against affirmative action
You offer nothing except the fact that one was a huge Ohio at football fan, and the other kid wasn't.
Btw a 26 on the ACT isn't shite

Umm... I mentioned Luke skipping class to watch the OSU basketball game
Also, Abdul Razak Ali Artan was a man, not a kid.

If you overlayed race onto that graph, you'd literally be homicidal

I knew Abdul Razak Ali Arran wasn't just some random name, Winston, you clever boy.
I bet that Bowling Green kid never went after people with a machete, even if he did suck at taking standardized tests.

I'm amused at how no one on the thread seems to understand what the graph shows

I'm more worried about the kid with a 12 on his ACT that got accepted. Football player?

Are these requirements for admission? I never followed LSU sports in high school, or even much when I was a student. Still got admitted though.

I see it, Rob. A whole shitload of people got accepted to tOSU and promptly said "frick that!"

Like I said. If you could overlay race onto those dots on the graph, it would be enraging

I think Winston's concerns in this thread are more about letting possible high scoring foreign psychopaths in while rejecting good old fashioned, law abiding but academically mediocre Americans.
