Earlier today the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the first projected county-by-county map of Obamacare coverage for the 2018 plan year which depicts at least 47 counties, with 35,000 active Obamacare exchange participants, that will have no health insurance options next year. Meanwhile, another 2.4 million people are expected to have only 1 option for coverage.
quote:
As CMS Administrator Seema Verma points out, CMS and insurance commissioners around the country are working to slow the collapse of Obamacare but unilateral actions are by no means a "long-term solution" for a system which has clearly failed.
quote:
Meanwhile, as Credit Suisse analyst Scott Fidel points out today, Obamacare attrition levels continue to deteriorate year after year...which is probably not terribly surprising given the exponential premium increases.
quote:
Of course we suspect this stark reminder of the 'health' of the exchanges will have a minimal impact on Democrats who will continue to hail the 'great accomplishments' of Obamacare while the system literally, and quite tangibly, collapses in epic fashion all around them. The ability to blindly and shamelessly support a partisan cause irrestpective of overwhelming facts proving the ineffectiveness of that cause is truly a talent reserved only for politicians.

Just sit back and do nothing. It will collapse on its own.

2 million more people just dropped out of ObamaCare. It is in a death spiral. Obstructionist Democrats gave up, have no answer = resist!

CNN: Obamacare in a "death spiral" according to Aetna CEO
Obamacare is in a "death spiral' and more insurers will flee in 2018, said Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini Wednesday.
More sick Americans are flocking to the Obamacare exchanges, which is pushing insurers' costs higher, Bertolini said at a Wall Street Journal forum. That, in turn, is forcing carriers to either abandon the market or raise their rates.
Predicted to get worse.

he's literally quoting the CMS commentary
quote:
The CMS map displays point in time data and is expected to fluctuate as issuers continue to make announcements on exiting or entering specific states and counties. It currently shows that nationwide 47 counties are projected to have no insurers, meaning that Americans in these counties could be without coverage on the Exchanges for 2018. It’s also projected that as many as 1,200 counties - nearly 40% of counties nationwide – could have only one issuer in 2018. Currently, for 2018 at least 35,000 active Exchange participants live in the counties projected to be without coverage in 2018, and roughly 2.4 million Exchange participants are projected to have one issuer.[1] It’s expected that the number of consumers with no coverage choices will rise.
i quoted from the link and not the article in OP

They are commenting on a report published by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

So wait, do we trust CNN or not? I'm confused every day

CNBC: Obamacare is Failing (Aug 2016)
The architects of the new health law built into it a three-year program to help cushion early insurance company losses as those previously unable to gain coverage were expected to flood into the program at the start. By year three, they assumed, the risk pool, and the prices the participating insurance companies charged, would begin to stabilize.
But that hasn't happened. With each successive annual open enrollment the tendency of the sickest to buy coverage while the healthiest hung back has only repeated itself.

Anyone else surprised that Louisiana isn't doing as poorly as Ohio, Missouri, and a shite load of other states when it comes to health care options?

You just have to check their sources. You cannot just blindly trust them...that goes for all news sites/channels.
For example, one of the posters in this thread dismissed the OP because it linked ZeroHedge. However the article is very well sourced.

Perhaps the best strategy for Republicans is to simply let Obamacare collapse under it's own faulty foundation.

No need to state the obvious.

I am not a fan of Obamacare but you realize it is a self fulfilling prophecy at this point right? Republicans can't claim that they are going to destroy it, then when insurer participation drops use that as a reason why they are going to destroy it. Of course insurers are dropping out, the government is no longer supporting it.
Moreover the entire thing is fricked up. For Trump just to say he's gonna let it implode, which hurts American families because he can't get a deal reached in his own party is just wrong. The GOP campaigned on it for years, and now when it is time to do something about it they are incapable.
The jubilation surrounding the "vindication" after Comey's testimony is absurd considering he can't get a major policy initiative taken care of, particularly, one that was a major campaign focus. So much for being able to make deals. Seriously, when is the winning gonna start?
