they must be satisfied (somewhat) with what medicaid pays them because they are always offering me a 50-60% discount if i pay cash.

You're claiming physicians offer you their clinical services at 50-60% off Medicaid's reimbursement rates?

If that is your claim, you're either confused or lying.

Exactly..m'caid pays about 35% of billed charges, it they even pay. The pt may have exhausted their benefits or m'caid may deny payment after the fact. Unlike pharmacies, we are not guaranteed paymment at the time of service. Not to mention the pain in the arse it is to file a claim with m'caid and collect it. I have had them go >13 months without paying me for anything on anyone. I only take the few a do to help those folks out.

Dr. Rajat Bhushan, arguably one of the better doctors in the state, has informed us that he will no longer be accepting ANY insurance and will be moving to a "cash-only" basis.

Have you determined if his services are worth you paying cash?

Regulation requiring states running Obamacare exchanges to mandate that condition of medical license is acceptance of insurance/Medicare/Medicaid.

Medicaid pays physicians as little as 8¢ on the dollar.
If Obamacare reimburses an average of 25¢ on the dollar, and that payment comes with a litany of expensive extraneous regulations (as it does), cash-basis practices can more than break even, even if they lose 75% of their patients in the transition. That, JoBoo, is the point.

So the business model is you dump your entire back office since you are not filing insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, reducing you overhead drastically? You get 100% of billed charges with instant cash. Even though you drastically reduce your patient load, you still come out ahead. However, aren't you fairly limited in what specialties can do this? Certainly all of the surgical specialties couldn't. I would think Pulmonary, Cardiology, etc., would have a difficult time with this concept. Family Practice - not sure but they typically do a lot of lab work, x-rays, EKGs, etc., so it probably has a lot to do with where you practice.

I think the goal will be to starve both patients and Dr's out of the growing pie. Then, they will both beg for Socialism....At least, it looks like the idea playing out, from what I can piece together.

Apparently not.

That should be the real eye opener inherent in the OP . . . . the MD noted is an endocrinologist.

If it works for an endocrinologist, it would work for these. Call coverage might fall outside of the model, but once care was rendered, noncash patients would be transferred back to the Obamacare system.

Or hopefully more doctors follow suit, you dump your costly health insurance and pay out of pocket and save a ton of money.

To some degree I agree with you, I switched to an ultra high deductible plan at work and started donating the premium difference into an HSA. By the end of next year I hope to have 2 years worth of my family deductible in the account, then I'll drop the donation to whatever the minimum requirement to get my employer matching is. Basically by that point I'll only be paying about 225 a month for a family plan and the security of about 8000 in my HSA.

If I incur medical expenses, I'll just start donating again

I think that is the way to go moving forward.

Not that familiar with what goes on in an Endocrinologist visit but I would have a hard time paying cash for a PFT at a Pulmonologist's office or Echo's and Stress Tests at a Cardiologist's office. But, I am not an OT baller either.

Surely he means the first-bill prices, which NO one actually pays.

I don't see O letting the class distinction in healthcare happen.
The ACA is very clear in intent that it will not. It will bring top care down to meet poor quality the leeches get.

Exactly.

and just like in Britain, middle class Obamacare patients will be relegated to the level of care the system provides. Whatever that level is.

Sucks!

More like, I wonder if there will be a decree under DHH in the powers that it was granted under Obamacare, that it is illegal for a doctor to practice without accepting insurance
I have no doubt they will make it a condition of licensure.

He didn't know what he meant.
He was actually talking about private insurance and dentists.

Licensure is done by the state.
