The IC calls them ISIL. The briefs that go up to the Chairman, SECDEF, and POTUS call them ISIL. The nomenclature assigned to them by the government predates the media's interest.

When you transliterate a word, the correct pronunciation is determined by the language into which the word is transliterated.
We don't pronounce France as "fronce." Pack-i-stan is a completely acceptable pronunciation of the country.

It's also inconsistent for Obama to say "Pahk-ee-stahn" but not "Meh-hee-co" for example.
